Real Wedding: Mai + Nick’s Organic Farm Wedding

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you all had a fun Halloween weekend! Today we have such a fun wedding to share. Ever wonder what a wedding would look like if the bride was a talented floral designer? Super gorgeous + ultra creative of couse! Mai is from Bunch Studio here in LA and designed all her florals – just wait until you see her ceremony arch she created with air plants!!  Thanks Mai for sharing your lovely wedding with us and some details into the day. Gorgeous photos by Adrienne Gunde.

This wedding was definitely a labor of love! It was so personal that I can’t think of any other way we could have had it done. All the hard work paid off when we saw everything come together and everyone having a great time…that’s what mattered the most to us. It was a lot of fun to plan and design everything.. and Nick gave me full reign on it all! The only thing I didn’t have a say in was the mustaches that he requested from the groomsmen a year prior. :)

I designed the florals and had Floral Elements help to artistically craft them together and set them up perfectly for the space. The arch for the ceremony consisted of Xerografica & Tillandsia airplants, eucalyptus, curly willow and hydrangea. The bridesmaid & mother bouquets were made by some of my bridesmaids and myself  (and one of the groomsmen!) the night before… it was fun and special that they were able to help craft.

Flowers used for the bouquets: Scabiosa pods, Garden roses from Rose Lane Farms in North Hollywood, Eucalyptus, Gomphrena, Dahlias, Silver Brunia, Berzillia, Celosia, Viburnum berries, Carnations, Kale, Millet, Hypercium, Artichokes, Helleborus, pepperberries, blackberries, spray roses and Balsa wood flowers.

What was your favorite moment from the day? I was so nervous until the moment I stepped in front of Nick and held his hands during the ceremony. We also really enjoyed the fact that all fathers +  daughters and mothers + sons were welcomed to the dance floor during the respective moments… it gave our guests a chance to be celebrated, and they loved it!

Right?? How stunning is that arch? So in love with it…

Nick wore a warm grey with khaki pin striped Zegna suit, with Allen Edmonds wingtip shoes. I loved his SF train token cufflinks!!! They are so us. He looked quite dapper but also not too dressed up. I love that the guys had no jackets and wore different types of red ties and bowties. My best man wore a green tie in lieu of the girls dresses.

My dress was a casual BCBG maxi dress that I found that I just fell in love with… it’s light, flowy, casual, and has fringed ends! I am a sucker for unfinished material. As much as I love, love, love dresses, a heavy ball gown in satin or with beading didn’t seem quite right for me. I made fabric flowers to add, so it would feel more ‘weddingy’.

I wanted an organic country farm feel to everything, incorporating shades of red, greens and neutrals such as khaki and cream. I loved the mismatched vases and jars for the centerpieces. I loved incorporating different fabric wherever we could.

When I first saw our cake, I almost cried. I know that is such a lame and cheesy thing to say, but that burst of emotion caught me off guard… I was so excited about it I couldn’t even finish my food!

DIY projects included a photowall by myself, my brother & cousin; 2 upholstered chairs by my cousin as a His & Hers gift; succulent favors from my mom’s garden; spray painted various vases and jars collected from earlier in the year for centerpieces, stationery (invitations, programs, menus, signage, escort flags…) I also DIY-ed all of the necklaces for my bridesmaids; all the hairpieces for my bridesmaids and myself and I made the flowers on my wedding dress.
