Philadelphia Garden Wedding: Lindsay + Anthony

bride and groom

Lindsay + Anthony love Philadelphia almost as much as they love one another, so they wanted to make sure their guests also saw why they loved Philadelphia so much. :) They were married at Bartram’s Garden – a beautiful property and a hidden treasure in the city. One of the oldest sites in the city, they loved the flowers, the tall trees, and the great view of the city skyline from the meadow. Since some of their guests traveled as far away as Hong Kong and Nebraska it was important for them to see the city this couple loved. Big thanks to Pat Furey Photography for the photos and congrats to Lindsay + Anthony!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Lindsay: When I turned the corner around the house to walk down the aisle. Before that, I was cracking jokes with my dad, trying to kill time until I could just get it over with. Then I saw all of our family and friends, I saw Anthony, and I heard the strings playing. It was surreal. I never expected a single, epiphanic moment that day where what we were doing and the step we were taking would hit me.

Anthony: For me, the most memorable part of the wedding was how fast everything went. It was only after everyone had left town, that I truly basked in how incredible it was. Standing in front of everyone, saying our vows was by far the most surreal experience I have ever had. We had almost all of our friends and family there, perfect weather with a slight breeze, and we were getting married. I can't imagine it being any better.

From the very beginning, we were thinking about how to ensure that our guests had a great time. Anthony and I both wanted everyone to feel not just like a spectator, but part of the big day. I feel like this came through in the food (we’re vegetarian, had meat, but wanted even the tofu to be good enough for an omnivore), the music (we wanted to keep everyone dancing, both young and old), the careful care we took in the seating chart (174 pieces of paper spread out and arranged on our floor!), and hosting Anthony’s friends and family who made the trip to be with us that weekend (he had family come from Nebraska, and even Hong Kong). Getting married was important to us, so we knew it was important to our friends and family, and we wanted to show them how much it meant to us that they were able to celebrate with us.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Lindsay: Be Decisive! I used to be a really indecisive person, but I learned to be clear about what I wanted, how I wanted the day to go, and how I wanted everything to look. I feel like this helped keep everything consistent and everyone involved stay on track and get their part done with plenty of time. It also prevents any last minute decisions that you might regret!

Anthony: I was woefully unprepared for the level of detail that would go into each part of the wedding weekend. Every groom should at the very least familiarize himself with the timeline leading up to the wedding as to not be caught off guard when a snag arises and something needs to be fixed or a change of plans needs to happen. That is the bare minimum aside from of course dressing yourself. It is much easier to voice what you do not want than to state what you do. We also utilized Google docs and Evernote quite extensively in this process so we could stay organized and make decisions even when we weren’t physically together. It makes quite a bit of difference to work with people who use technology, even if its just e-mail and txt messaging. Lastly, if you are using any type of car service, make sure the people driving are from the area and know their way around without a GPS.
