Eclectic California Wedding: Marcella + Nick

wedding party

Today’s wedding was inspired from the couple’s roots. Marcella was raised on a farm in California and Nick grew up in Chicago always spending time on his grandma’s little lake front ranchette. Because they both also have a deep rooted passion for all things old, they knew their wedding was going to consist of an eclectic mixture of vintage and antique goodies. Nick builds motorcycles so his only REAL request was that his friends could ride their choppers! :) Marcella owns a vintage rental shop, so she had endless inspiration – from the tiniest antique medicine bottle on the table to afghan wrapped trees – which I’m totally obsessed with!

From Marcella, “There was no question we would be married in a barn or on a ranch that we would be able to bring out that side of us that not everyone knows exists!  We both worked side by side with making decisions. We did a lot of compromising and in the end of the day, as much as we wanted our wedding to be about us, we truthfully wanted to have a ceremony that everyone would be able to feel our love, and a celebration people would never forget!”

Thanks so much to Joy of Wildflowers Photos for the photos and congrats to Marcella + Nick!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

In the middle of our ceremony, after Nick exchanged his ring with me, he turned to my daughter, Pella (his now stepdaughter), knelt down and gave her a little tiny little ring he had custom made for her. He calls us both 'his girls' so he wanted to make her feel special and included on our wedding day! It was honestly the sweetest gesture I've ever seen in my life. My heart melted. Having been a single mom words cant express the feeling of knowing that my husband loves my daughter like she was his own. He made it a point to make the ceremony be about both of us, because Nick always tells me "he got a 2 for 1 deal".

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

My advice for planning now is: work together, compromise, and enjoy the ride. LESS IS MORE. The key is enjoying each other through the phase of being engaged, and planning a wedding. Focusing on the importance and the commitment ahead. Do some premarital counseling and continue to fall into a deeper LOVE.
