How many of you lovelies have read Anne of Green Gables? Or maybe you watched the movies that were made based on the books? It was one of my favorite books when I was younger. In fact, when I was in 5th grade my family took a trip to Prince Edward Island so my sisters and I could see the farmhouse + woods that inspired the book. :) In today’s fun styled shoot, Stage Right Etc (located in Kelowna, British Columbia) paid homage to the story and setting for Anne of Green Gables while also giving it their own twist – like the awesome tea cup centerpiece!
Gilbert calls Anne “Carrots” when they first meet which makes Anne initially loathe him but it later becomes an endearing nickname when they fall in love. To keep with the carrot theme, Sweet On You make mini carrot cakes for each place setting in a sweet (literally) reference to this nickname. :) Bailey + Yanni, a real couple in love, were their Anne + Gilbert and did an amazing job. The dress “Anne” is wearing was an amazing vintage find! Thanks so much to Jessica Zais Photography for the photos.
In the beginning of the book, Anne renames the tunnel of blossoms Matthew and her ride through from “The Avenue” to “White Way of Delight.” Love that they found a tunnel of blossoms for their dinner location and they even called it out with a cute sign.
So, fans of the book and/or movie, was your favorite scene interpreted above? If not, what was your favorite scene? I’d love to hear in the comments. :)

Yay! These are so so lovely and such a wonderful take back to one of my favourite books. Wonderful job Jessica!
I absolutely love that “Anne’s” dress even has PUFFED SLEEVES!!!!
I noticed that too! I SQUEALED!! :D
Oh, I love this! I want to watch the movie now. :)
This is perfect! Love the tea cups on pedestals and the lace draped boat images! Gorgeous!!!
I used to love the books and TV show! I adore this shoot and the styling. Mind you good job we havent got green hair going on or the bride getting drunk on cordial!!
I love the raspberry cordial shots! one of the funniest scenes of the movie!
I love Anne of Green Gables and this is amazing.
I was drooling over the pictures and my mind exploded at the beauty of the boat pics at the end…oh heaven.
This is by far my favorite wedding you have featured…
I’m in love with this inspiration! Such a pretty ways to do the teacups and flowers.
OMG I NEED this hairdo for my wedding!
OH NO THEY DIDN’T! This is one of my all time favourite books! I love love love everything about it! What would have been perfect was the proposal in the garden, but man I just love all the references in the shoot, really makes the story come alive in such a sweet way! <3
This is such fabulous inspiration, love how even the cake is blousy and romantic!!
I have been obsessed with AOGG (hehe) since I was a small child in the early 80s.
I even did a session myself for my own engagement ring using a copy of the book. So beautiful & this is pretty much my dream wedding! The pictures are fantastic.
So breathtakingly beautiful! The attention to detail is gorgeous (puffed sleeves!)
Can’t wait for my own trip to PEIsland…someday…
Until then, this gorgeous photo shoot takes me right there.
So creative.
all the details in this shoot are oh so lovely!
I am positively hyperventilating!!! An Anne of GG shoot???? WHY has no one done this before?? It is my favourite favourite favourite shoot I have EVER seen on GWS. ARRRRGGGHHHH!
Magical, incredible photos! What an incredible shoot.
I love this!! That’s my favorite movie of all time and I love the dress and the hair and the whole feel of it. The teacup table-runner is inspired!! Thanks for sharing some unique ideas.
I loved that book and movie! The boat scene with the draped fabric is beautiful! I love you teacups on pedestals as well. Gorgeous shoot!
Oh my.. I loved Anne of Green Gables and just love this wedding! Absolutely stunning. Oh and I love those ruffle cakes!
I AM SO EXCITED THAT THIS SHOOT FINALLY HAPPENED! This just made my life. I think that there are so many beautiful elements in this inspiration shoot. The books are just so beautifully translated here. And I should know, because I am an Anne snob. This is just so well done. Love the raspberry cordial, the white way of delight, the row boat (my fav part of the book)… The only thing that could have possibly made this any better would be featuring some of the jewelry that Gilbert gives to Anne. Like, even Anne’s love of books is incorporated. This is just so beautiful and perfect! Well done! <3 <3 <3
Oh I love Anne of Green Gables so much! I read the whole series when I was a girl and watched all the movies and listened to the books on tape. I used to be such a dreamer! When we did the play in high school I wanted to be Marilla so badly, but didn’t get the part. This is truly beautiful!
This is so pretty! I love it.
Magical… and inspiring… beautiful photos. Love the teacups, the boat idea, the flowers were spectacular… nice shoot. Was looking for the bride’s green shoes given the title… did she wear green, I couldn’t see them. Fabulous execution of a theme… as usual.
omg, love that boat with all the lace, the beautiful tea setting, the gorgeous flowers, her dress, everything. The image are amazing.
Thank you for all the awesome comments everyone!! Fun seeing all the fellow Anne fans out there! : D
love the books and the movies. great job! I was just watching a few Anne and Gilbert scenes on youtube just to relive the story.
That was so well done – but the sleeves probably wouldn’t have been ‘puffy’ enough for Anne – I think they’re just perfect though ;)
Whoa, I have that vintage wedding dress!! Very cool. If anybody is wondering, it is a house of bianchi dress circa 1970’s. My version is sleeveless, but never-the-less gorgeous!
That’s so cool! Thanks for the info!
Not only would fit make Jessica’s year but ours as well ! Thank you to everyone who’s left such inspiring comments. We truly loved doing it :)
My cousin was actually the woman who played Anne in the movie (Megan Follows), I’ll try to point her in this direction. :)
Love the pic with the ‘raspberry cordial’!! :)
No way!! :O Oh my god it would make my year if I knew Megan Follows saw this. Megan Follows IS Anne in my eyes. I adore her. <3
Love love love! I adored these books growing up. Favorite part of the book was when Anne (with an e) sunk the boat and had to be rescued by Gilbert.
This is definitely romantic!!!! Love the boat!!!
Beautiful shoot and amazing details! :)
The scene with Mathew and Anne (with an E) when he collapses in the field and passes away in her arms. Simple love that Anne did not need to figure out like with Gilbert.
Oh. My. God. I LOVE this! Especially the boat shots.
I love Anne of Green Gables, I think my favorite moment is when Gilbert gives up the Avonlea Scholarship to Anne so she can stay close to Mirilla and Green Gables. With the sun setting on the coast, green field and the victorian garb! From the scenes above my favorite would be the boat scene, where Gilbert saves Anne from drowning, while she was play-acting ‘The Lady of Schallot’- beautiful photos! All of them! Love the ideas!
Oh, Gilbert Blythe! Love…
Love, love, love this. My daughter, Anne (pictured in July 4th beachy inspiration), was named after this Anne, and I’m going to Prince Edward Island in August. So beautiful!
So sweet and romantic! One thing though: Gilbert never called Anne “Carrots” again – he did call her “Anne-girl”, though!
Thank you Paula!! In the shoot we were referring the the scene in the movie Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel when Gilbert affectionately calls her “Carrots” at the very end. That part always makes me tear up. hehe. Interesting to know he doesn’t call her “Carrots” again in the books though!
I love that part of the movie!!
Oh, I love this!!! I remember talking with you about this idea a year ago, Jen! This team put it together MARVELOUSLY – Anne of Green Gables is not something you could just throw together! All the little details and especially the “White Way of Delight” made me feel like this is really their wedding. Love it!!
Oh this takes me back to being a little girl, reading Anne of Green Gables, perfectly wonderful pictures, just gorgeous!
Oh how I wished to be Anne of Green Gables when I was growing up! Love the pretty coloured cakes…
Oh, it’s absolutely divine!
Please could you tell me where the gentleman’s suit was found? It’s exactly what I’m looking for!
Hi Nicola,
It was a second hand store find so unfortunately I can’t help you with any direction in where to find one similar.
Best of luck !
Danielle
I can’ t believe that this shoot actually happened. It is more than romantic and so perfectly carried out! I thought I was kind of crazy buying (&watching) Anne of Green Gables DVDs in my 30s, but this shows me I am not. Thanks for that, too :-)
I love the style of the dress, especially the lace – beautiful
Love it! But it would have been fun to see a staging of “twenty…pounds…of brown…sugar”.
This is so beautiful!! I love every single thing about it, especially the reception table set-up. I love all the attention to detail! Simply marvelous!
It’s a dream.. I’m sure! Too romantic…
One of the loveliest weddings I think I’ve ever seen…. everything about it so perfectly chosen, down to the finest detail… well done!
OMG! I’m a redhead, a photographer, and an Anne fanatic. I actually put my hand on my heart and sighed…what beautiful photos, what beautiful models, and I am still dying over The White Way AND The Lake of Shining Waters! :)
I just love this photo shoot and used some of the images for my post on Anne of Green Gables (giving you credit of course). The interpretation is right on; romantic and nostalgic. I especially love the boat photos.
Your site is just lovely,
Rebecca
This is the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen, and all of the details are just perfect! I have already decided that I want the music from the film, Anne’s Theme, in my future wedding, but is truly inspiring!!
This is SO gorgeous!
Love it.
My favorite part is the end of Anne of Avonlea when they meet on the bridge.
are you kidding me?! White Way of Delight?! This took some research to find these locations! Well done guys!
Wow, such a fabulous interpretation! So many little details from the books, too! Now I want an “Anne” wedding….
Seriously! Beyond smitten! I think they nailed in the best kind of way that any busom friend would feel joy over. I swear if all of my girl friends got married like this, I would always be a bridesmaid for them. Haha. Love.
Truly gorgeous. “Anne” is so (ahem) divinely beautiful and “Gilbert” is a dream. :) I love the whole thing and how the book is so perfectly represented.
I just cant stop looking at the pictures. They are as perfect and beautiful as a dream. Just like a fairytale story being pictured. So romantic. Your website is truly amazing.
Thank you so much for all the wonderful comments everyone! I am so pleased that people continue to enjoy this shoot! : D It was definitely on my bucket list to do. : )
I love Anne of Green Gables! Such a cute theme! Carrots! :-)
LOVE every single thing about this! Absolutely beautiful!!
Definitely the ‘Carrots’ board! Anne of Green Gables (books and movie!) has always been one of my favorites.
I have seen thousands of wedding photos, and I can say with certainty this is my very favorite by far! Anne if Green Gables is my very favorite book series of all time, and Anne Shirley was my very best friend growing up! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this simply magical series than by having a wedding inspired by it!! <3 Thank you so much for posting this glorious wedding!!
Loved the couple walking hand in hand in the white way of delight. Also sitting in the rowboat out on the lake. The tea cups on the candelabra is a nice touch. Anne Girl has been a favorite of mine since I first met her. Nice theme!
beautiful shoot! Where was the location with those beautiful flowers??
Love this! It made me so happy to see these beloved scenes being re-created in such a tasteful way. I love that it had some unique elements to it, like the tall candlesticks and tea cups and embroidery hoops hanging from the trees. Totally love the boat with the sheer canopy.
