Kortney + Nick wanted their wedding to be a reflection of them as a couple. They both love breakfast foods so they decided to have brunch after their LDS Temple sealing with some of their favorite foods. They also love reading, so they placed vintage books around their reception. Kortney’s favorite detail of the day was her lovely dress from BHLDN – which is one of my favorite dresses they carry also! Great choice Kortney :) Since Kortney is a graphic designer, the pressure was on to create an amazing invite and you can see she delivered. And just wait until you see all the vintage umbrellas they hung for their reception – so super lovely! Congrats to Kortney + Nick on their personal + lovely wedding day and big thanks to Middle Aisle Events for sending this one my way.
Most memorable moment of your wedding day?
The most memorable moment for us was when we were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. Words cannot describe the emotions that we felt and the happiness that we experienced during that time. It was definitely a moment that we will cherish forever. Another moment that we really loved was walking into the backyard before our brunch and seeing everything all set up. It was such a neat experience to see all our hard work come to life. It was absolutely perfect.
We made a big effort to incorporate unique details into our wedding décor. Our favorite detail was definitely the 40 vintage umbrellas that were hung over the guest tables and the dance floor. Each umbrella was different and together they made quite the statement. We also put a lot of time and thought into the centerpieces. We found the elements for the centerpieces from family antiques and miscellaneous items from local thrift stores. We wanted each centerpiece to be different so it took a lot of work on our part to group each centerpiece together beforehand so our florist could order and prepare enough flowers for each grouping.
Any advice for those planning now?
You don’t need an excess amount of decor, flowers, etc. to give your wedding that “wow” factor you want. We went with a very simplistic approach and it all came together perfectly because we focused on the little things. We didn’t have overwhelming floral centerpieces but somehow our flowers stood out because of how they were arranged. Something as simple as paper details can make such a big difference in the overall look of your wedding also.
Try and decide early on what you want to splurge on and what you can live without. For us our biggest concerns were our photography, invites and paper goods. I still remember when we got our wedding photos in the mail and sat down and looked at all the pictures together. We were reliving our wedding through the amazing photos that our photographer captured. All the details, big moments and little moments were there.
Let people help you! I had to learn how to trust people to do what they do best and that was really hard for me. There is no way that we could have done this alone. Find a wedding planner and/or other talented vendors in your area that will help you bring that wedding you’ve always dreamed of become a reality. Meet with more than one vendor (unless you are dead set on one) to see which one you click with the best. I was so lucky to establish relationships with my vendors on both a professional and personal level.

This wedding is amazing! I would say they succeeded in showing their style and personality on their wedding day. From her short vintage gown to the amazing umbrellas, this wedding is one I will always remember seeing! Such creative ideas….those umbrellas! GAH!
This bride is so adorable. The dress is cute, but she totally took it to the next level with the shoes, necklace, and little sweater. Love it all!
What a cool reception set-up! On a tennis court? SO awesome! And those vintage umbrealla are freaking amazing.
Ooooh, this is lovely!
Love it!
Actually don’t know what to say, it’s just all so good!
I think the umbrellas are a fantastic idea, they give it a more cozy feel, and add just the right amount of color!
Congrats!
I just love how they transformed that tennis court into their reception space! Super creative! Those umbrellas are so cool, and love those other little details like the desk and suitcase. I would never have thought of how to make a tennis court so cute!!!
I love the cardigan! Can someone please please please tell me where I can find it? Tweet @nicoleluthman THANK YOU!
Okay, I was thinking “What a sweet and adorable simple little wedding.” Then I got to the umbrella pics. Wow. Wow. Wow.

How cute is the short vintage dress and adorable heels? I’m dying! Love it so much!
The tennis court was definitely my favorite part of this wedding–besides the umbrellas of course (ingenious!). Love all the simple, yet ridiculously clever details!
Oh my word, those umbrellas are amazing! As is the bride’s BHLDN dress. What a fun wedding!
LOVE that dress! So chic and adorable!
Yes – Please tell where the cardigan is from!!!
Love everything! Can you tell me about the boutonniere?
For those who asked, I got the cardigan at BHLDN.
And thank you so much for all the kind words!
Love the umbrellas – Can you tell me where you got them from?
We ordered the umbrellas from Bella Umbrella. They have so many amazing vintage umbrellas!

Those upside down umbrellas are ridiculously cool!
Finally!!
A wedding where the bride wears a vintage-inspired SHORT dress.
Getting a little bored of all the ladies wearing the same: boob tube, tight fitting on top, meringue on the bottom.
So refreshing to someone doing it a little differently.
wow! i cant even express how much i love this! the brides dress and heels are seriously awesome! i have a feeling i especially need the shoes ;) i feel like everyday this week ive come here and have just been blown away with these weddings!

Love!!!! So cute:)
Love this wedding! Where are the shoes from?
Becca, I got my shoes from Nordstrom. I don’t think they carry them anymore but here is a link where you can purchase them.

Gosh what a creative, beautiful wedding. The umberella’s suspended over the tennis court look fabulous!
Where on earth did you get those cafe style string lights? I have been looking everywhere for some and still haven’t found any!
The bride’s advice to “let others help you” is very sound. Would love to see what videography there was of this special Utah wedding.
