A Modern Elopement in Mexico Inspired by Luis Barragán’s Bold + Bright Architecture

Luis Barragan Inspiration

Are you familiar with the work of Luis Barragán? If so, you’re in for a treat (and even if you aren’t — you’re still in for a treat!) For those of you that aren’t, fear not! We’ll catch you up to speed. :) Luis Barragán was a Mexican architect and engineer who excelled in combining architecture with landscape, and was revered for his creative use of geometric lines + brightly colored buildings (think hot pink and orange!). Famous for the quote, “I don’t divide architecture, landscape and gardening; to me they are one,” this was definitely evident in his work.

Inspired by Barragán’s designs, Aly of Luna Wild Design headed down to one of the newest hotels + venues in Tijuana: One Bunk. Playing off the idea of “a day in the life” in TJ, Aly designed a modern day elopement in Mexico. She shares We did a lot of DIY projects for this — including spray painting tiles matte pink to mimic houses designed by Luis Barragán. The couple, photographed by Gantes.co, is a real couple and they’re getting married this year (so it was easy to capture their playful love). The hotel is such a dream — perfect for future weddings + elopements, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to honor Barragán’s designs than his home of Mexico.

Doesn’t this sound INCREDIBLE? Just wait… On to Mexico!!

Luna Wild Design shares I‘ve always been drawn to Luis Barragán’s work and I dream that one day I can mimic a house after his designs. I wanted the design to be inspired by his work but with a fun elopement style twist. We definitely see the inspiration — so cool!
