A Handmade Airplane Hangar Wedding: Kelly + Curtis – Part 1

airplane hangar wedding

I have such a treat for you guys today! This lovely wedding sent over by the talented + super sweet Ashley Rose is sure to get your creative juices flowing! The bride did most of the wedding herself – including designing + making her own wedding dress, invitations, and so much more! And the location – it took place at an airplane hangar with the ceremony outdoors between two planes and the reception inside the hangar! What a unique location for a wedding! There were so many great photos from the day, that I had enough for two posts, so be sure to check back later today for the ceremony and reception photos.

A bit into the day from KellyWe were definitely inspired by the venue: a hangar filled with WWII airplanes and memorabilia! Our logo design was inspired by a mix of aviator wings and the original winged emblem of Piaggio (who makes Vespa scooters). The colors we picked happened to be 3 of the 4 colors (mint green, coral, and marigold) that are in my Andy Warhol bird tattoo (they’re my fave colors!) and they also had a vintage feel to them, which mixed right in with the overall look. Overall, we wanted our wedding to be meaningful to us, really feel like us as a couple, and be fun for our guests!

Can you believe she made her own dress!? She designed and sewed it. She also used vintage pearls from an old necklace that she had to decorate the dress.

Each bridesmaid picked out their own dress. Kelly gave them the color swatches and some examples, and let them have fun with it! :) The feather hair clips each girl wore were made by Kelly.

How amazing is Kelly’s vintage veil? She found it on Which Goose along with the vintage gloves she wore.

And yep, Kelly designed, printed, and cut out all the paper goods for the day also, including the invitation suites and the Love Birds banner above. So much creativity! Be sure to check out part two with their ceremony among the planes and their reception in the airplane hanger with a vintage vespa!
