Ladies + gents, boy do we have a treat for you today! Carissa + Adam’s colorful, 1970’s LoveFest is guaranteed to be just the ticket to get you through your mid-week slump! Think 1200 handmade paper blooms, an ombre polka dot aisle runner, a VW bus, gold wedding dress, slow-mo video booth and so much more! We didn’t want you to miss a thing, so we’ve broken it down into two fabulous parts. First up, their cheerful + inspiring ceremony – and be sure to check back in a bit to see their fun-filled reception in all its glory!
A bit more from the beautiful bride, From the moment we started planning the wedding, we knew we wanted to do something unique, fun, retro and beautiful all wrapped up into one; to transform the white walled loft into our own little land of happiness. We are both obsessed with retro music and that time in general, so it was only fitting to have a music, pattern and socially inspired 70’s wedding. We also wanted to make sure it was a personal representation of us as a couple and the awesome life we live with our hilarious friends and family; leaving tradition at the door and making this a night everyone will remember. Instead of a wedding, we called it our “Love Fest”, which was apparent from the moment you walked in the door. Guests were served my favorite cookie and a tasty cocktail before the ceremony; I walked down the aisle to the Love album version of Hey Jude and instead of flowers, the wedding party held gold + teal painted tambourines and signs which were used to jam out to the music together once I reached the altar to my soon-to-be husband…
Sounds pretty epic, don’t you think? A big shout out to the incredible design team from Sweet Sunday Events + to June Bug Company for the gorgeous photography. And, of course, congrats to Carissa + Adam on a super rad day!
Carissa rocked one of our all time fave dresses, a gold Sarah Seven number, currently available in the GWS Shop!
We must talk about this ceremony site set-up, yes? A 12′ tall mural, hand-painted by The Stationery Bakery, was suspended from 333 First Ave‘s wooden rafters + adorned with blossoming vines of pink + yellow paper flowers. There’s no way we could love it more!
The most memorable moment of our wedding day would be walking down the aisle and the few moments before. First off, it down poured rain for 2 hours leading right up to the ceremony and then miraculously cleared with a rainbow in the distance as soon as we started. In an amazing coincidence, our family walked down the aisle to Bob Dylan’s “Shelter from the storm”. The pure magic of that song combined with the weather that day created a really beautiful and powerful setting.
After I saw the wedding party walk out to Hey Jude, there were about 15-30 seconds that I had alone with my dad and the music. My arm was wrapped in my dad’s and we were singing the lyrics to each other as my heart pounded so hard at what was about to happen. The singing calmed me. Hey Jude has significance for me and my dad so it meant the world that I had one last impromptu moment to sing that song with him before I married my husband. Once the big “Na Na Na’s” hit, he said “you ready?” and we headed down the aisle. The wedding party was dancing and beating their tambourines as “All you need is love” signs swayed in the background. Hundreds of paper flowers, happy colors, beautiful prints and 200 smiling faces transported us to what felt like a dream world. Once I met up with my husband and hugged my dad, the wedding party as well as the audience joined together for one last celebration; clapping, banging tambourines and singing until the song faded out and our best friend’s dad began to marry us. We were able to really take in the love and joy that filled the room and mentally prepare for what obviously was going to be an amazing night. It was pure girly (let’s be real) awesomeness and definitely the best moment of the night (on top of so many others)!

What an amazing looking wedding! It’s so nice to see bright colours when so many people opt for subtle colour on their wedding day.
