These Two Took Their Wedding Portraits at MOCA in Los Angeles + Then Had an Intimate Garden Wedding

Redbird Los Angeles Wedding

Megan and Tom first met while they were both working at MOCA in downtown Los Angeles, so visiting the place where their relationship began was an important part of their wedding day. Enter the quirky + cool museum, filled with modern and contemporary art. M+T wandered the galleries, taking snaps with their photographer, Caca Santoro of Max + Friends, and we think it beautifully tells their love story.

After wandering the museum, the two met their friends and family for an intimate ceremony in a secluded garden at Redbird, coordinated by Jessica Foster Event Planning. Megan tells us: We wanted the wedding to look and feel classic and timeless because there’s a quiet elegance in that when all the details speak for themselves. At the same time, we wanted it to be fresh and unexpected, we let go of a lot of wedding traditions in the hopes of creating a really simple but personal and intimate celebration.

Ready to see how all the contemporary elements were tied in throughout the day? Just wait until you see the “secret” garden!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

My most memorable moment from our wedding day was walking hand in hand down the steps to the entrance of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Tom and I met while working there so it's a very important place for us, one that holds so much meaning and so many happy memories. As we approached the door, we didn't say anything but Tom squeezed my hand and we smiled at each other while fighting back tears. There we were on the edge of doing something incredible together and to visit the place where it all started was quite an overwhelming experience.

How much fun are these portraits?!

Megan tells us about her modern + oh-so cool dress: My wedding dress is Givenchy from the 2018 collection. I first saw it online before Tom and I were even engaged but I knew it was the one so I bought it!

It’s not a wedding dress but it’s everything I ever wanted in one, I never even bothered to try on anything else. It’s chic and timeless and so, so simple but the details, like the pockets, make it fresh and unexpected. It felt amazing to wear because it fit my style and personality to a tee so even though it was off the rack it felt like it was made just for me.

Our Musical Choices

Processional: At Last by Etta James

Recessional: Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town by the Talking Heads

First Dance: We didn't do a first dance because we opted out of the dance floor altogether in favor of a quieter, more intimate evening

Redbird Los Angeles Wedding

We held it in the garden at Redbird because we love living in Los Angeles, and going downtown felt really true to who we are. But we also wanted to create an oasis, a secret garden, where you could escape it all without really leaving.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Your wedding can be whatever you want it to be. Stay true to yourself, do what feels right for you as a couple and not what you think you should do. Surround yourself with professionals whose style matches your own and who you can trust to carry out your vision. And, if you have the resources, definitely hire a wedding planner so you can enjoy every minute of your day.

Reception in the Garden

Intentional is also a really great way to describe it because although it felt so easy and casual, everything was perfectly tailored and chosen for a reason. The fresh cocktails and food using ingredients from the garden and the family style meal helped bring it all together so it felt like having a home cooked family dinner in the backyard.
