Dave + Gerard are both from Texas, but it wasn’t until they moved all the way to New York that they found each other! To pay homage to their roots, and give their guests and fun destination wedding, they decided on 800 Congress in Austin, Texas. They wanted to showcase Austin’s fun + funky vibe along with all its hip energy, and event designer Bird Dog Wedding helped them channel that!
D+G share: Gerard found videos of mirror galaxy cakes on social media, and a celestial theme grew from there. We loved the idea of something that was romantic but masculine with bright, deeper tones that represent us: emotional, bold, whimsical, and strong. On top of this, Dave loved the Leo and Claire version of Romeo and Juliet…so the design grew from there: hip and other-worldly, with modern neon signage!
Curious to see what they came up with? So were we! Let’s take a gander at all the details Feather & Twine captured! Also, we can’t help ourselves—we’re over the moon!—when it comes to celestial-inspired weddings…prepare for all the puns. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. ;)
Kicking things off with a *big bang,* Fine Day Press crafted this invitation suite that’s leaving us starstruck.
The Wedding Party
Are those blue hues absolutely divine? The grooms rocked sharp custom suits from Michael Andrew Bespoke—it was all about nailing that color palette!
The Bloomin’ Ceremony Space
From the dip dye curtain to the hanging greenery and all those florals on the grid…we can’t stop looking! Kudos to the florist, Bricolage Curated Florals!
It is difficult to pick one moment, but nothing beats the vows we wrote ourselves. Illustrating what we mean to each other and committing to each other in our own words is really what it is all about.
We are so lucky to have amazing friends that really allowed us to personalize aspects of the day and fill it with surprises: our processional was sung by a friend, Dave’s sister officiated and wrote the ceremony, the wedding party selected the readings (revealed to Dave and Gerard during the ceremony), and the first dance was a surprise to a close friend, Arlo, who did not know we would dance to his music prior to the wedding.
Processional: Make You Feel my Love by Bob Dylan, performed live by friend Giselle Vento
Recessional: Chicago by Sufjan Stevens
First Dance: Listen by Arlo; Arlo (Aaron Long) was at the wedding and the song choice was an emotional surprise to him and his partner Morgan
The Newlyweds
So handsome, you two!!
The Galactic Reception
Neon signage, of course!! We’re kind of getting those Romeo and Juliet vibes in these florals…are you? Also peep those darling cosmic cards!
For the color palette it was all about bringing in colors unique to the galaxy: blues, purples, teal, amber, and shiny star metallics. Aren’t those dip dye curtains marvelous?! Such a clever way to section off the venue!
New Moon + Supernova for the cocktails—yes, yes, yes!!

The tables were lined with luxe pieces from LOOT Rentals.
The Sweet Treats
In case those celestial-inspired elements weren’t enough—take a gander at this shimmering cake Sweet Treets Bakery created!
Spend time up front on getting a great team around you and take (almost) all of their advice! Emily and Monica at Bird Dog Wedding were incredible, not just at handling the logistics seamlessly, but also by doing an extraordinary job creating a unique and astonishing design. They connected us to a phenomenal team of vendors and to Kelsey & Talon at Feather & Twine, who captured so many moments that we can now look back on for the rest of our lives.
They ended the night with a killer dance party, full of 1990s-2000s hip hop and R&B, and a sparkler exit in downtown Austin! Out. Of. This. World.
Congratulations to the both of you!!
