Any city-dwelling couple knows you can’t do much better than escaping to the beach for a little reprieve every once in awhile! For Barbara + Rory, New York is their city, and Montauk, the beach town. So when it came to choosing a wedding day location, these two didn’t have to think very long!
As soon as we got engaged, we knew we wanted to have a destination wedding, but we didn’t want to just pick a beautiful venue. We wanted our wedding location to mean something to us, and we both kept coming back to the idea of Montauk, NY. We moved to New York City together in early 2012 and have been visiting Montauk every summer since. What better place to bring all our friends and family than to a town that we love so much and visit multiple times per year? It was an easy decision. There is truly nothing better than having all of your favorite people in the same place and celebrating your love.
B + R married at The Surf Lodge, a cute bohemian hotel on the beach. We’re loving the fresh + airy design of the space! Once the venue was secured, the couple called on Lauren Fair Photography to capture the day! Let’s have a look:
Such a cute save-the-date! The beachy day came together with design by Oleander Curated and planning by All Who Wander Events.
Hello, lovelies!!

Barbara wore a stunning, seaside-worthy Anne Barge gown from Kleinfeld Bridal.
All the ladies in Show Me Your Mumu! Love this combo of pastels and prints!

These tropical bouquets are the stuff of dreams!! Oleander Curated designed the day’s florals and we’re just getting started with all the beauty…
All SO stunning. With hair and makeup by The Bonafide Ginger, the ladies donned appropriately-styled beachy waves and sunkissed makeup!
These mini boho beauties!!
How gorgeous is this?!
We seriously can’t get over this bouquet. The giant tillandsia is perfection!
Such a sweet backdrop over the water! Those palms by Oleander Curated bring in just the right amount of tropical + boho charm.
Yay!
Processional: Ripple by The Grateful Dead + You’re My Best Friend by Queen (Guitar and vocals by John Jackson and Ciara Sohr)
Recessional: Baby, I Love Your Way by Peter Frampton (Performed by The Therapi Band)
First Dance: Soulshine by The Allman Brothers
My main advice to those starting to plan is to start planning early. Try to get the elements that are most important to you booked ASAP. We were lucky enough to work with all of our first choice vendors and I think this was mainly due to booking them a little over a year in advance. (We had a year and 3 month engagement.) After booking our wedding venue, the amazing husband and wife duo, Lauren and Tim, at Lauren Fair Photography was the first vendor we booked. It was actually through their photos from other weddings that we found the rest of our vendors. Because they had all worked together before, everything seemed to fall into place seamlessly. We came out with the dream team of vendors! We wish we could do it all over, just to work with these amazing people again.
Hands down, our first dance! Neither of us were confident in our dancing skills, so we took an 8-week of dance course at Fred Astaire in Manhattan leading up to our wedding. We didn't want anything too complicated, so our instructor choreographed the perfect swing dance combination to coordinate with our music. Not only did the dance go off without a hitch, but it also turned into one big singalong. It was something we will never forget!
Absolutely love this day! All of our congrats to the happy couple :)
