The Bride Wore a Hand-Painted RAINBOW Wedding Dress

Rainbow wedding dress

Are you guys ready for one of the most vibrant + colorful weddings we’ve ever seen?! We featured a photo of the bride’s dress on Instagram a few months ago and you guys LOVED it. I mean, it has over 20,000 likes (holy smokes!). So it’s about time that we share the full event — every carefully curated detail + the crazy collection of colors…

Romi + Matt share: We decided at the beginning to throw themes out the window and to just express ourselves and do what we loved. We let our personalities come though by combining all the things we adore:  anything urban, artistic, fun, and especially colorful! The day was filled with surprises and we rounded it out with slightly rustic furniture + florals. The theme was truly Romi and Matt.

Let’s see all the DIY-elements of the day and how they crafted a theme that was truly them in the photos captured by Alex Kwong Photography!

Now, for THAT BESPOKE DRESS… It was designed by the Tiff team, handmade by Patricio Banados Valenzuela and hand-painted by Tiff Manuell.

Romi spills: I work as a designer/artist for local Adelaide art-based fashion label Tiff Manuell. After the Tiff Manuell team came up with the design for our Adelaide Fashion Festival collection in 2015, I loved one dress immediately! I had our dressmaker, my dear friend Patricio, dig up the pattern and re-make it for me with some slight alterations to flatter my body shape.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Romi: Walking down the aisle to Kimbra's song, “Settle Down” and seeing Matt waiting for me was the most exciting thing I’ve ever done. I had kept my dress a secret the whole time and seeing his face as I walked towards him was a moment I’ll never forget.

Matt: Watching Romi walk down the aisle in her dress was the happiest moment of my life. I knew that she and her dress would be perfect in every way. I had such a build up to this moment and found myself often getting emotional thinking about how beautiful she would look.

One of our other favorite moments was our walk home together after the wedding. We took a short cut through China Town and felt like a scene straight out of a movie. It was a spur of the moment decision and we just laughed and talked all about the day. It was the perfect time to reflect on our day as it all seemed to go by so fast.

Anything goes, anything we love could be a part of our day because we didn’t have specific rules and we didn’t limit ourselves to traditional norms; we had our children Tahlia and Cooper in our wedding party and they both shared a beautiful reading of ‘The Art of Marriage’ by Wilfred Peterson that brought us all to tears and everyone gave a standing ovation.

We seriously can’t get over this creation! Romi tells us: I love how the artwork flows and tells a story from front to back. I love the colorful abstract contemporary artwork and I love that my dress reflects who I am. I truly feel my personality has been captured through the artwork and always have an emotional reaction whenever I see it.

Now that, my friends, is one heck of a wedding dress.

We chose to buy our flowers in bulk from a wholesaler — Tony’s Wholesale Flowers — and do all the arrangements ourselves. The day before the wedding, it was all hands-on deck at our venue and our bridal party and family helped set everything up.

Romi chose Gypsophila for the table decorations and the bridesmaids bouquets, as it added a soft element of beauty while complementing the girls and the artworks.

Letting the other details shine, R+M opted for a simple yet chic wedding cake crafted by Cake Cakery.

Too cute!! As for the invites — after a setback with the first lot of invitations, R+M fell behind schedule and needed to send out invitations ASAP. They ended up commissioning an artist friend of Matt’s (Michelle O’Kelly De Connejera) to create their invitations and after a few e-mails back and forth, she completely brought their vision to life!
