Summer Wedding in Spain: Kelly + Mikey

bride and groom

Kelly + Mikey love in London, and while they love it there, they wanted to get married somewhere less rainy with guaranteed sunshine! So they chose Spain. They had been on vacation to the Costa Brava years earlier to a friend’s house and fell madly in love with the area – plus they really wanted an outdoor wedding and Spain has great weather – plus great food + beautiful scenery! But planning a wedding in another country – and another language – is no easy feat! Poor Kelly…she would often wake up in the middle of the night worrying about the ceremony location, table settings, and then unfortunately – RAIN! Yep, it managend to rain during the rehearsal the day before, but thankfully their wedding day turned out to be a beautiful Spanish August summer day! A bit more about the day from Kelly:

“As we are both TV producers, we are used to very detailed organization – maybe too much! But I’m not a crafts person! Thankfully we had talented people to step in…my mom made the backdrop of our photo booth, my dad did the calligraphy on all the escort cards & table settings, and my good friend Julio had our table runners made. Also since we both have friends and family from all around the world, we figured this was probably the only time that we’d be able to get them all together, so we wanted to make it more of a vacation than just a one day wedding. We planned a welcome drinks party the Saturday night before the wedding, we had the wedding on the Sunday, and then a pool party on the Monday. Plus some of our family & friends stayed the whole week after the wedding. We felt so blessed to have guests from the US, UK, and Australia make the trip to Spain.”

Big thanks to Ed Peers for the gorgeous photos and congrats to Kelly + Mikey!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Right before I walked down the aisle, I checked my phone and realized Mikey had sent me the sweetest text message. As I had been SO stressed on the day I had started to forget the real reason we were there. Seeing that message reminded me how much I loved Mikey and how thrilled I was to be marrying him. It took a pep talk from my dad & Maid of Honor to stop the tears at that point.

Mikey said his most memorable moment was the ceremony - it was humorous, heartfelt, short & sweet - just the way we wanted it!

When we first went to Spain to look at venues, we saw so many that just weren’t right. I got really nervous that we weren’t going to find anywhere and then Mas Mauri was the last place that we looked. It immediately felt perfect. The owner, Ramon, and his daughter, Nuria, were godsends. They became like family and we couldn’t have done it without them! After countless unsatisfactory quotes from local carpenters, Ramon decided to build the chuppah himself for us and Nuria was on hand to solve every wedding problem!

We were really lucky to have Mikey’s musical family involved in the day. His older brother, Bob, played guitar before the ceremony, his father played saxophone as I walked down the aisle (and performed the ceremony!), plus his younger brother, Steve, was our DJ.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Everyone says not to stress but I found that virtually impossible - it's just my nature! I would advise people to remember that your wedding isn't the most important event ever and that you need to have a balance between planning and the rest of your life. But if you love planning it and going on blogs daily, you should embrace it!

I would also recommend having not only a fantastic Maid of Honor (thank you Casey!), but also a talented event planner on board. I luckily had my dear friend Julio - he has done huge weddings in Sydney but now designs spectacular live TV events. He stepped in to manage the set up, the design, and the flow of the day - he kept me (almost) sane! Also, get the photographer that you REALLY want!!
