Jenna + Kyle had to go with Plan C for their wedding day, but with creativity and lots of DIY elements, they were able to make their small backyard wedding at A Town A frame cozy, personal and stylish. J took on so many design projects, that she even decided to open up her own business, The Modern Make! They looked to a muted, earthy palette of beige, blush and rust, dyed their own napkins, made their own arched ceremony backdrop, and even made cinnamon rolls for their brunch reception! When searching for venue #3, they decided to go with their gut on this adorable Airbnb and it couldn’t have been better!
We wanted the day to feel warm and inviting, with the focus on our love for one another, and we tried our darndest to create a space that conveyed that. The vibe was modern and elevated yet cozy and personal. We had our hand on every detail of the day, from the napkins we hand-dyed (up until 6 am on wedding day!) to the custom ceremony arch we built+painted. It was so rewarding to see the fruits of our labor in all their glory on our big day!
Kadi Tobin Photography captured everything in beautiful detail. Let’s check it out!
Celestial Bridal Gown
J chose this star-studded Watters gown from BHLDN, and paired it with classic gold Loeffler Randall heels. We LOVE celestial bridal attire moments here at GWS, so this gown gets our seal of approval!
Small Backyard Wedding Ceremony
A guest list of only 5 people never looked cuter! J + K built these modern arches and paired them with vintage boho rugs.
We had planned to do a first look at our original 90 person wedding, a moment for just the two of us. But when our guest count dwindled down to just 5, we knew we'd have plenty of personal time and decided to go with the element of surprise. We spent the morning drinking coffee and leisurely chatting with family before we each went to our respective spaces to get ready. When the time came to walk down the aisle, and we exchanged that first glance, it was pure magic.

Small Backyard Wedding Brunch
J + K chose a brunch wedding reception which gave them plenty of free time to laugh with loved ones and take gorgeous golden hour photos at sunset. A local organic cafe, Field to Table, catered all the yummies!
Thinking about a brunch wedding as well? Here’s why a brunch wedding might be perfect for you!
Isn’t this the CUTEST little tablescape?? Avenue 12 provided all the furniture rentals and we’re loving the natural wood tones against the wedding colors.
Creative Light Design crafted these gorgeous floral arrangements and those pink garden roses?? Delicious!!

Homemade cinnamon rolls topped with the cake topper from J’s parents’ wedding. Adorable!
Go with your gut! When it came time to plan wedding attempt number three we were slightly discouraged but knew in our hearts the vision for our day. In the hunt to pick our final venue, we knew we had found the one almost instantly, without ever seeing it in person. We took a chance, went with our gut, and booked the venue sight unseen, visiting for the first time the afternoon before our wedding day. It was terrifying, but we just felt in our bones it was right. In the end, it was the perfect backdrop for our dream day.

Loving the mustard gold that K rocked from The Black Tux. Definitely a modern groom!
Congratulations Jenna + Kyle! Your small backyard wedding has MAJOR style and creativity! We hope it inspires others that no matter the wedding setbacks, you can always find the beautiful solution that was meant to be. We will end with your last bit of advice!
Our wedding day wasn’t the one we initially planned or what we had in mind when we started this crazy journey, but in hindsight, it was better than we ever could have imagined. Be open to the ebb and flow of the process and take on small projects where you can, those personal touches mean so much on the big day!
