Having never traditionally walked down the aisle together, Karly wanted to surprise her husband with the wedding they never had. So sweet, right?! Just you wait… Rich, her husband of 7 years, was under the guise that he was serving as the ‘groom model’ for a styled shoot. He had NO IDEA that she had actually planned a secret vow renewal for the two of them!
Lindsey, the photographer at Light as Gold shares: To help keep up the ruse, he was asked to write down a list of things he loved about his wife “just for the photos” and then asked to make sure he had those “vows” with him at the altar. As she started down the aisle, he called across the courtyard and said “this is the wedding we never had”—still not knowing that she was walking down the aisle to renew her vows to him.
The Details
The invitation suite by LaneLove Paper Co. hinted at the surprise to come for the sweet groom and accented the copper details found throughout the design.
SMOKIN’!! Karly absolutely stunned in her gown from Lovely Bride.

The Reveal
He has no idea what’s about to happen…
Isn’t that acrylic sign absolutely exquisite?
The Walk Down the Aisle
Randy Allen Davis of Wow Me Events personally serenaded the bride as she walked down the aisle. After the ceremony and the photos were complete, he sang the couple’s favorite songs in an intimate fireside lounge.
Once Karly made it to the altar, a surprise guest officiant appeared—a long-time friend of the bride and groom—from around the corner!
If that wasn’t enough of a surprise, the team added a bonus of bringing in their kids and additional friends and family members who took their seats to witness this sweet vow renewal ceremony. To seal the surprise, Karly leaned in towards her spouse and said “this really is the wedding we never had.”
To set the stage of this surprise vow renewal, the team crafted a muted color palette with bold accents, and a custom geometric backdrop by Taylor Bradford of Sugar Creek Event Rentals.
The Tablescape (and That Pampas Grass!)
Custom cocktails crafted by Don Branzuela of HD Liquid Catering had the guests drinking works of art and toasting to the ‘newlyweds.’
Did you notice those leather envelopes holding the menu cards? Such a fun touch!

That pampas grass installation by Vella Nest Floral Design is a DREAM!
The evening was topped off with an exquisite marbled cake by Loft22 Cakes.

Can you imagine?! How fun + inspiring is that? Even if your first wedding wasn’t what you imagined…you can totally have another day that celebrates your love.
And hey, maybe you can even surprise your significant other? :)
