“Meet Us At The Market” was the charming and meaningful mantra behind Danielle + Jonathan‘s colorful Seattle wedding – one of the most fun + unique celebrations we’ve seen in awhile! Since the famed Pike Place Market holds a special place in both of their hearts and has become a big part of their relationship and daily routine, they knew it would be the perfect spot to exchange their vows. I’ll let Danielle share more details about the market + why they chose it for their big day:
Five years after we met at an old bookstore in Seattle we decided we wanted to be husband + wife. However, since we are musicians, we have been in a lot of weddings and thus we were sort of “wedding’ed out”! We really wanted something different than the usual pinterest-obsessed-spend-a-lot-of-mula wedding. We were also on a major budget. We live a few blocks from Pike Place Market, so we often find ourselves there as a part of our normal routine. One day we were in the market, and the idea just dawned on us: the market was perfect for our vows! We had our first date there, our dog loves the fish-throwers, and Jonny even purchased the ring there. Even better – you can see the ferries coming in-and-out of Puget Sound from the market (ferries mean a lot to us – long story). Thus, our wedding theme was born: “Meet us at the Market”! It took us all of a day-and-a-half to plan almost the entire wedding. We wanted to make this day about us, so we decided right away not to stress about small details like decorations, traditions, and guest-list. It was perfect.
Thanks so much to Courtney Stockton for the beautiful photography + big congrats to Danielle + Jonathan on an amazing, unique day!
Danielle + Jonathan planned their first look + a sweet gift exchange in Post Alley, at the place where they love to get tea and chocolate together…
And how cute is their pup (and flower girl!) Penny Lane!?
The ceremony took place in the hazy, late afternoon sun “around the corner from the gum wall, below the fish-throwers, down the stairs from the famous pig, and across from il Bistro Restaurant” (a direct quote from their wedding invitation). A close friend officiated the ceremony in front of the couple’s invited 150 guests, but there were countless other tourists + on-lookers present, too, as the market is a super popular Seattle destination and was open during the event.
As Jonny made his way through a crowd of onlookers and guests, with a boombox on his shoulders blasting New Order, Danielle waited upstairs on the second level of the market and somehow started singing “going to the chapel and we’re gonnnnnna get maaarriiied” in three-part harmony with her sisters. Pretty soon a crowd of tourists joined in and we suddenly found ourselves in a sort-of crazy impromptu musical only minutes before we wed! (Also, a random guy walked through our ceremony and said “hey…this is a road!” haha)
Danielle + Jonathan decided to surprise their guests by singing to them in lieu of a first dance. As the belted out the song they wrote together especially for the occasion, guests happily hummed along on kazoos.

Weddings tend to provoke family and friend drama; keep it simple! Make your day about you and don’t allow yourselves to stress over “the little details” that you think will make your day perfect. Because really---it is not about your wedding, but rather your marriage. This was the best advice we received, and it allowed us to have the most absolutely wonderful wedding experience we could have ever imagined. We were also glad we spent our mula mostly on our honeymoon. Oh—one piece of advice though, make sure to plan a fun getaway and stash away some food before its gone—our “goodbyes” kind of dragged on since we didn’t have a set leave-time (and we were hungry).

This is hands down my favourite wedding ever on this site! It looks so genuinely fun and full of love and completely unpretentious. I love that they planned it in a day and a half. What a beautiful wedding! I have wanted to get married in the Market for years, but didn’t think it was allowed! Is it possible to get more information from you about the red tape (if any) you had to deal with to do this? Thanks so much!
