Muted Tones + Artistic Touches Stand Out in this Retro-Modern Palm Springs Wedding

Retro Modern Palm Springs Wedding

What better place to meet The One than at a concert? Base level, you know you’ll like the same music and that is major. It’s where the story began for Becky + Danny—both at a Florence + The Machine show and later a bar, where their mutual friend officially introduced the future bride + groom!

With both of their families in Southern California, they decided on an accessible destination wedding in Palm Springs and got to planning right away! Here’s the intel from Becky:

The night we got engaged, we settled on Palm Springs. We had been before as a couple and just felt so comfortable in the desert; it’s truly something special. The smells, the architecture, the light, we knew it would be the perfect vibe for our wedding. The second we stepped on the Frederick Loewe Estate, we knew we found our place; it took our breath away.

Becky handed over the reins to Shindig Chic, giving them permission to take her design inspiration (more on that below) and absolutely run with it. Laura Goldenberger was there to capture all the details—a Palm Springs wedding that’s totally chic, minimal in its nature, and downright artistic.

Let’s have a look!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Becky's: Our first look was ridiculously special. My best friend/hair and makeup artist drove me to the location up the street, where Danny was waiting with our videographers. My nerves were PUMPING. Our photo and video teams are the coolest people and made the atmosphere so fun. We were all giggling and laughing, and more importantly, they made us feel so comfortable. When Danny and I saw each other, we hugged for what felt like forever.

Danny's: The range of emotions you feel and nerves before the first look are hard to describe. I had the same feeling as when I first laid eyes on her when we met. When I saw her, a mix of gratitude, excitement, and love rushed through me and capped off when a par of two dogs crashed our photo party. It was so us.

We love hearing the story behind the dress! For those worried about that not getting that perfect feeling, Becky’s story is for you:

The Sarah Seven dress I wore was the first dress I tried on! I certainly didn’t have the “OMG this is the ONE” feeling but I felt really comfortable in it. I tried on a few more but always came back to the Belmont. I loved the idea of changing into something super comfy for dancing, so when Sarah Seven came out with their Before line, I was sold on the jumpsuit.

The Ceremony

Retro Modern Palm Springs Wedding

It’s easy to go tropical when you’re planning a wedding in Palm Springs, but Becky actually switched up her design inspiration as the wedding approached:

I initially loved leaning into the desert, tropical vibe of Palm Springs (think monstera leaves and bougainvillea). My entire Pinterest board was decked out in bright colors. As we got closer to the wedding, I started Pinning these gorgeous architectural floral arrangements in muted fall colors. I had my design call with Angelena of Shindig Chic and talked about our new vision. Her work speaks for itself; she is so talented. I said, “Here’s the vision, you do you.” One the day of the wedding I was so excited to see what she came up with!

The Retro-Modern Reception

SO cool! Angelena of Shindig Chic told us more about the rad reception design:

Becky really let us think outside the box. She loved this really interesting mix of muted 70s tones, modern and retro art, textural flowers, and anything unconventional. We were so inspired by it all that we custom painted the table numbers and seating chart to bring that design element into play. It was such a fun twist and really brought a unique artistic vibe into everything.

Becky + Danny are huge lovers of the cookies, cake, and crack pie at Milk Bar! All of which turned out to be a huge hit with the guests, of course.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Hire vendors you trust, and let them work their magic. This takes the stress away from you and allows them to showcase their skills. Also, as much as you can, try to lean into the wedding planning process. It's SO stressful; I felt like a shell of a person at times. But when it was all over, I wished I hadn't stressed out as much (I know, easier said than done). But it all works out exactly how it should in the end.

For more behind the day, Gold & Gumption tells to story so well! Have a look:
