Continuing with our theme of incorporating your fiance’s interests into the day also, we have a fun, whimsical wedding that is all about the couple’s German heritage – especially the beer! :) Emily + Matt were inspired by several things when planning their wedding, most of them stemming from their German heritage including delicious beer, folk patterns and ribbon. They also wanted to incorporate springtime and the outdoors and a fun, whimsical, organic biergarten! Their wedding took place in Austin, Texas, so they were also greatly influenced by the relaxed and laid back Austin vibe. Luckily for them they had many talented vendors, friends, and family to help them carry out their vision! Congrats to Emily + Matt and thanks so much to Paige Newton Photography for sharing the photos!
How cute are the Restroom signs above!? Each of the tables below had a story written by the bride and groom.
From Emily + Matt: “Mercury Hall provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and reception – we loaded the inside of the hall with pom garland and continued the festival theme outside with our ribbon altar, ribbon chandeliers, and biergarten tents. Aimee Villa of Lizze Belle Events was our coordinator and she worked like crazy to pull everything together, and she was so sweet and fun to work with. Our florist, Erin Knipp of Rosehip Flora, and I worked closely on keeping with the theme through our florals. She came up with so many creative, wonderful ideas including beer bottle cocktail-area arrangements, beer steins and reclaimed wood in the centerpieces, and billy ball wands for the flower girls. I also worked very closely with Lauren Cunningham of The Creative Parasol in the design of the paper goods. She designed tons of goodies for us incorporating folky graphics and fun, bold typography including save-the-date coasters, invitations, sign-in poster, programs, escort cards, pint glass design, bar and food menus, groom’s cupcake flags, and everything in between. We could not have pulled off our wedding without her incredible vision and attention to detail. Royal Fig Catering provided everyone with delicious appetizers and food. Everyone said it was some of the best food they ever had at a wedding! They also operated our wonderful bar tent, filled with six amazing beers and delicious wines and liquor. Coco Paloma Desserts made our cake and we could not have been happier. She incorporated all the fun German, folky elements we love and it all paid off – it was beautiful and tasted delicious.
Our Family and Friends. What would we have done without them? They helped us so much and were super supportive throughout the whole planning process. My mom cut all the poms from scratch from tissue in the wedding color palette. My mom, bridesmaids, family, and friends helped string and puff the garland for hours! It all paid off, the poms were a festive, beautiful focal point in the hall and bar tent. Matt’s mom baked endless amounts of German chocolate cupcakes for Matt’s groom’s cupcakes. Matt’s oma created the ribbon garland behind the cake. Matt’s uncle, an awesome carpenter, crafted our biergarten sign from centuries-old, reclaimed redwood found in an old home. He also created our cupcake stands from local timber. His friend created the cake stand from an abandoned log in Ingram, Texas. Matt’s aunt, who’s a talented quilter/seamstress, made the quilt we used in the photobooth background as well as the flower girl sashes (from vintage ribbon I found). Matt’s mom and brother also provided us with beer steins we used for our florals. Lauren’s step-mother crafted all the fabric ties and table runners. Families also provided us with photos we used in our “love photo” area. Matt’s dad, brother, and uncle all helped set up the sound and wiring! Our friends Kat Wilson and Jeremiah Ogden performed “Rose of my Heart” at the ceremony and it was beautiful. Brother-in-law and groomsman, Justin Peterson, read “Make You Feel my Love” by Bob Dylan at the ceremony. Our friend, Tim Klatt of Strangeland Brewery, brewed two of our beers for us – Meet Me at the Alt-ar Bier and Ball and Chain Porter! Two beers were brewed by a friend.”

where did you get the pint glasses?
i love that idea!
Love the blue brides maids dresses, so cute.
Lovely couple and amazing wedding! Paige captured everything beautifully and is a true talent. Every detail was perfectly Em and Matt. Keeses :)
Thanks, everyone! We had a lotta fun that day :). As for the pint glasses, The Creative Parasol (http://thecreativeparasol.com/) designed the logo and then we mass ordered pint glasses with our logo from a customizable glass company (http://www.customglassware.com/printed_glasses_215.htm). The Creative Parasol also created the wraparound escort cards. We knew pint glasses would be the perfect favors for our wedding!
Love the decor, the small paper banners and paper flowers hanging above the wedding reception. So cute and pretty!
Such a colourful wedding. I absolutely love it! :D
Such a cute theme. I love the cake! Very southern German. And the coordinating ties… so neat!
The French Bouquet- Custom Wedding & Event Florals
Adorable! My Opa would be thrilled if I had a German-themed wedding like this one.
I love the bright colors!! I am using a similar palette of blues and yellows for my upcoming wedding. I would love to know if you used a tutorial or guide to make the pom garlands. I need something to string along the ceremony chairs and this would be beyond perfect (although probably very time consuming to make). Thanks!
Congrats to Emily and Matt! You put on such an AMAZING wedding with so many special details. It was perfectly “you.”
What a pleasure it was being a part of it all. Can we do it all over again??
love the colour in this wedding! The pom pom garlands and bunting are amazing!
Sounds like 2 families have become 1…congrats!
My fiance and I are beer snobs and love love love craft brews!
I was wondering if you have any templates for the beer signs that you had on your tables.
I would love to incorporate the different kinds of beers and explanations of the different beers on our tables.
thanks in advance!!

Hey Emily!
I know this was posted awhile ago but I was wanting to know how you hung the pom poms on the string? What kind of string did you use? Any websites you have that would be of help? Thank you!
Hey, Ash- I used Martha’s tutorial for a car pom garland, but made them a bit smaller in size. I used striped baker’s twine to tie them together and each strand was composed of several smaller strands tied together. Lots of friends and family helped me puff them a couple days before the wedding.
