As a gay couple, Jonathan and Garrett lived out a wedding day that they both were unsure would ever come. When it came down to finally plan their big day, they fell in love with a theme that was inspired by crisp, modern neutrals with a bohemian style! The couple even asked their guests to attend wearing a neutral palette as well. Although there were some grumblings at first, the result was totally worth it!
With perfect planning from Intertwined Events, the most lovely florals by Leproux Co, and gorgeous photos by Chris Glenn, they had the most perfect Palm Springs wedding…let’s take a look at their day now!
Join Us For a Day to Remember

Orange County based florist Leproux Co stunned with their gorgeous neutral floral arrangements.

The couple realized they had forgotten their dress shoes 45 min before the wedding started… so they wore their Vans reception sneakers the whole day! We actually love the look!!
About the Couple

We asked the couple to share how the two met! And the story is just way too cute not to share:
“We’d like to say it was a chance meeting, locking eyes across the room with an instant connection, but really we both swept right and the rest is history! Our first meeting in person was at the Lemonade at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Garrett didn’t run for the car when I, Jonathan, said I wanted 6 kids on our first date. That’s when I knew this could be for real.”

These grooms look so handsome in their custom suits from Suit Supply!

If you thought their meet-cute was good… wait until you hear about the proposal!
“Being gay, there’s no set tradition on who proposes to who, so after we first said I love you at Garrett’s parents Park City house our first New Years Eve, we had the talk. It was then we decided that if it ever got to the point where we would get engaged, Jonathan would do it. Almost 3 years later, it was time! Jonathan talked to Garrett’s parents for their blessing before booking a surprise weekend getaway in Joshua Tree, one of our special places as a couple.”

When Garrett went to work that morning, Jonathan packed the entire car, went to get groceries, and had everything ready when Garrett got home from work. When Jonathan mentioned he was kidnapping Garrett for a weekend away, Garrrett’s first response was “are we getting engaged this weekend?!” Thankfully, Jonathan expertly deflected and Garrett put it out of his mind.
Although Jonathan originally planned to do it on the first night, they were having so much fun drinking and filming dance music videos in their remote Joshua Tree Cabin that Jonathan decided not to break the moment with the proposal – he knew the right moment would present itself.
Cut to the next morning, both in bath robes, sitting on a swinging porch bed overlooking the color-changing boulders of Joshua Tree National Park when Jonathan knew it was time. It was then he went in for a coffee refill, took a couple deep breaths, and came out to pop the question. He didn’t technically get on one knee, but Garrett didn’t mind!

Love at the Ace

The Ace Hotel was the perfect venue for J + G’s big day!

Two of the most important elements to the grooms were having a unique altarpiece and a large hanging floral installation above their head table, both of which turned out better than they could have imagined!

Move over flower girls, the flower grandmas are coming through!!

The couple’s dog Macaroni was allowed to roam the venue the whole time after walking with the couple down the aisle! According to the grooms, Macaroni thought it was his day and kept dancing from table to table! So cute!

Fun fact: Garrett’s older brother, Nick, married the couple!

These gentlemen (and Macaroni!) look as happy as can be! Congrats to this joyful duo!
On Cloud 9

Macaroni miiiight just be the real star of the show! In his eyes at least!

“We have both always been big fans of a neutral palette, but had initially thought that we’d have all of our grooms people in white and sand colors with us both being in gem colored suits as the pops of color. But, over the course of four delays due to covid, our taste evolved slightly.
In that time, we started our joint interior design business, BrewerSweet Co., which allowed us to explore our neutral aesthetic more fully. When it was time to actually pull the trigger on making final selections, we had a crystal clear vision of everything being neutral with textures and patterns adding visual interest, which Intertwined and LeProux were able to expertly bring to life!”

“Even taking covid into consideration, the planning process for us was so smooth and effortless. Because of covid delays and regulations, we ended up having four prospective dates in the end, but Intertwined handled everything and made it a super smooth process for us.”

“Intertwined also brought along incredible vendors each step of the way to bring our vision to life. As creatives, it was so fun to work with folks who instantly got our vision and were as excited as us to see it actualized. Walking into the various spaces at the Ace Hotel on the day of our wedding and seeing everything in person was overwhelming. It was even better than we imagined, and we have pretty vibrant imaginations!”

Being able to celebrate with their friends and family around a gorgeous pool was one of the couple’s favorite memories of the day!
The Reception Space

Everything about this design screams fairytale and perfectly captured the couple’s dream of a neutral palette that truly sparkled.

Candlelight adds the perfect ounce of romance to this celebratory dinner.

Leproux Co truly went all out with this floral design, and the result of this naturalistic tablescape is breathtaking.

Being able to have the wedding of our dreams, especially as two gay men who didn't think it would be possible most of our adolescent lives

“We also encouraged guests to wear white and neutrals to fit in with our palette, keeping everything in the same vein. There was a bit of pushback from certain family members, especially about the dress code, not knowing how all of it would turn out – but we asked them to trust our vision.
On the day of the wedding, after seeing all of the dried florals and grooms people in their neutrals, there was a moment when Garrett’s mom came to us and said “I get it now!” which made it all worth it. It was absolutely gorgeous.”

Katie with Intertwined Events shared: This wedding was so incredibly special, I actually still get goosebumps thinking about it. As a gay couple, it was expressed multiple times that they both felt like this would never be possible for them. They had never felt like they would find their other halves, and as they said in their vows, be able to be their “most authentic selves.” But they did in one another, and that was so beautiful. It was truly one of my top moments that I have witnessed in my career. Love is love and it was so wonderfully evident this evening.

Let the epic pool party commence! J + G truly had the time of their life on their special day and the entire GWS team wants to wish them a lifetime full of love and light! Love always wins!
