There are certain directors and artists whose style you can spot a mile away, and if you’re familiar with Wes Anderson, you’ll know that he is one of them! As a longtime fan, photographer Kirsty Mackenzie wanted to create an editorial inspired by his quirky style.
Together, with the colorful stylists at The Wedding Spark, they decided to focus on the bohemian romance of Moonrise Kingdom and the glamour of The Grand Budapest Hotel. Fancy yourself an Anderson fan? Let’s take a tour through the snaps at The Barn at Avington and see how they brought his signature style to life!
In true Wes Anderson-style, White Cottage Weddings’ invitation suite had a hand-written note and featured an array of camp-themed pieces.
P.S. Did you notice the serious detail?! They matched Suzy’s red and pink letterhead!
The Threads
The idea was as if Sam and Suzy were all grown up and celebrating their wedding in a wonderfully whimsical way.
Kirsty shares: The Barn at Avington was the perfect place to hold this shoot, with its light and airy blank canvas interior and gorgeous grounds.
The Zany Ceremony Space
Would you take a look at that ceremony space?! For this colorful look, it was all about using mismatched chairs from Purple Door Props and then lining the aisle with vintage rugs.
SO MUCH FUN!
Harkening back to the film, they even included vintage suitcases from With These Hands.
The Eclectic Reception
For the avid bird-watchers… or you know, just as an escort chart, the team fashioned this darling “What Kind of a Bird Are You?” display, as an homage to Moonrise Kingdom.
To complement the colorful outdoor ceremony space, the reception had to be just as fun! Using a collection of crockery from Harriet’s Table as well as gorgeous spring florals from The Wild Fox, we think they definitely nailed the Anderson-inspired look.
Mismatched plates and adorable camp cards. Yup, we LOVE this tablescape!

And, of course, an adventurous wedding banner was 100% necessary!
I spy a grand Maid of Gingerbread delight fashioned after the Grand Budapest Hotel.
The Sweethearts
The signature centered Anderson shot.
The lovely model, Georgia, donned a stunning in vintage-inspired piece from free-spirited designer, Indie Brides.
The groom, Maxwell, looked dapper in his three-piece suit combo from Dapper and Suave.
Can’t get over these photos! Romping through the fields and then heading back to the tents… definitely getting the Sam + Suzy vibes.
Where else would the newlywed Camp Ivanoe alumni spend their wedding night than in Baylily Bell Tents?
Because every epic shoot should be finished off with colorful smoke bombs, right?
“I think you’ve still got lightning in you.” Who else thinks they totally captured the essence of Anderson?
