Harmony in the Hudson Valley: A Modern Boho Wedding at a Dressed Up Barn in New York

Bohemian Eclectic Wedding

Even though The Farm at Pond Lily is a very rustic venue in the Hudson Valley, Charlotte + Scott wanted wanted to forgo the “barn-wedding” aesthetic, in place of something much more elegant, yet relaxed. C+S dated for 9 years prior to the wedding, and the most important thing to them was for the day’s energy to be intimate and organic, with their love for each other and all of their guests radiating throughout.

To do this, they brought on planner, Cathy’s Elegant Events, and focused on eclectic bohemian-inspired décor, with modern touches and a soft, early autumn color palette. To bring a touch of the ‘70s into play, mismatched vintage rugs lined the aisle, tons of Fleetwood Mac + R&B tunes were played, and Charlotte rocked an off-the-shoulder gown.

Let’s take a look at how they avoided the “barn-wedding” aesthetic in lieu of something much more boho in Julia Elizabeth’s photos!

Charlotte shares: Scott and I knew we wanted a wedding outside of New York City, so all of our family and friends could treat our day as their own weekend retreat as well. Upstate NY in the fall sounded ideal, with all of the beautiful foliage and open farm land.

The Ceremony

We fell in love with the sprawling fields, pond, old farmhouse and barn immediately. As an equestrian, the horses on the property immediately sealed the deal. To avoid the “barn-wedding” feeling, we brought in tons of bohemian-inspired elements: mismatched candles, vintage rugs, slate serving platters.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

There are too many to count, but ultimately the moments immediately leading up the ceremony and walking down the aisle get top pick. Scott and I did a first look, which was amazing, but the gravity of the day didn't hit either of us until we all organized to begin the processional. Our parents, siblings and closest friends were all lined up on this quiet country road with us hearing the string quartet in the distance as the ceremony began.

Finally when it was just me and my dad standing there getting ready to walk down the aisle, the happy tears and nerves started to kick in. Little did I know Scott was already at the alter experiencing the exact same emotions. The second we finally got into eyesight of one another every bit of nervousness just faded away; we knew what was about to happen was going to be amazing.

Are you eyeing those gorgeous sleeves?! They’re actually detachable, so you can wear the dress as a strapless gown for part of the day + then change up your look for the evening! If you scroll back up, you’ll notice that C did just that!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

First, there are very few times in life that all of your beloved, closest family and friends are in the same room. What's the expression, wedding and funerals? Well weddings are better! Take stock in it, take time to look around the room and cherish it. Those are the people that got you to where you are as individuals and as a couple. Second, hire a talented wedding planner so you don't have to stress the tiny details leading up to the big day and hire an amazing photographer so you can remember the candid small moments for a lifetime.
