On our wish list for 2015: more weddings at our fave New Orleans venue, Race + Religious, please! Seriously, this place radiates magic, so it’s really no surprise that Sonia + Cody’s amaze R + R wedding does, too. S + C’s celebration, filled to the brim with unique details (all dreamt up by the two of them, of course), revolved around sharing the magical New Orleans experience with all of their guests. You’ll see mermaids + mushrooms + some traditional NOLA style, but before we send you off into the dreamy abyss of amazing photos, courtesy of Ariel Renae Photography, let’s hear a few words from our bride:
Cody and I wanted a wedding that was whimsical and sophisticated. A wedding is a wonderful opportunity to create your own world for one beautiful and magical day. Cody and I really wanted our personalities to shine throughout that day with a wink and a smile. I’m a photographer and Cody is a graphic designer, so we had a lot of creative energy to invest in our wedding. We both love fantasy-romance movies and literature, so a lot of inspiration was pulled from influences such as The Labyrinth, The Great Gatsby, The Baron Munchausen, and anything with mermaids involved. I love mermaids…
With one glance at Sonia’s STUNNING dress, we were hooked. It was custom made just for her by Julie Vino. Seriously, all of you brides who want a dress that’s one-of-a-kind and as beautiful as this, check out their studio + work here!
Digging this garden rose + thistle bouquet by Poppy and Mint Floral Company.
And we’re guessing Sonia had some pretty happy bridesmaids considering they got to wear these fun, mint Modcloth frocks!
The ceremony was really amazing. We had our friend officiate and it was a remarkably powerful and funny part of our day. We also loved our second line, which took place right after our ceremony. A second line, being a musical tradition in New Orleans, is an incredibly fun musical parade to participate in, but nothing beats being right up front with the musicians. It felt like the whole world was dancing and celebrating with us.
The second line parade (a musical tradition in New Orleans) right before sunset helped to transition the ceremony into the reception with the perfect touch of NOLA magic!
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this totally amazing wedding, coming up in just a bit!
