“You have to know good taste to appreciate the irony of celebrating bad taste. If you have bad taste, you just don’t get it.”
Grooms Bobby + Vinny love this quote from cult-classic filmmaker John Waters. When planning their wedding, they decided to use it as the inspiration for a joyful, colorful, “Kitsch with Klass” themed celebration.
Bobby, a city planner, and Vinny, an artist, tied the knot at the iconic Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California. Known for its bright pink decor, throwback-style hospitality, and themed rooms, The Madonna Inn has been around since the 1950’s and is still widely adored as the embodiment of an over-the-top retro experience. The spot has always been special to Bobby + Vinny, so there could be no better (or kitschier) place for them to say their “I do’s.”
In the spirit of going all out, the couple decided that TWO themes were better than one! In addition to “Kitsch with Klass” these two incorporated “Disney, Disco, and Delicious” into their vision for their wedding. With the help of planner Kelly Demaray of Demaray Events, the couple combined these amazing themes and went big on everything from princesses and sparkles to balloons and disco balls for a day of all-out delight.
We cannot get enough of this romantic extravaganza!! Let’s take a look at some of the stunning pictures that photographer Michelle Roller snapped throughout the day!
Delicious Details

This gorgeous invite suite by Jonathan Wright and Company set the tone for all of the pinks to come!

Now THAT’s how you do a ceremony arch!! The day’s spectacular pink florals are by The Little Branch.

Love the laceleaf, birds of paradise, and orchids in various shades of blush, but why stop at flowers?! Disco balls, gold-ified and glittery greenery, pink ferns and monstera leaves, and feathers add tons of crazy-festive texture to the florals.
We love the nod to the disco element of their theme. (Maybe some foreshadowing about the huge disco dance party they planned for their reception?)

The Madonna Inn‘s signature decor is vintage pink perfection. Vinny says: “It was the perfect venue for a fun, unique celebration that dazzled the eye wherever one looked.”
A Ceremony Full of Color

Bobby + Vinny turned to party entertainers from A Wish Your Heart Makes to greet their guests AND to be their wedding procession! What a way to make good on the Disney portion of their theme! Merriweather, the blue fairy from Sleeping Beauty, came down the aisle first followed by the Queen of Hearts as ring bearer.

Next came Belle from Beauty and the Beast as the flower girl (she gave out red roses on her way) and finally Cinderella escorting Vinny’s best man.

The dress code for the day was “Shimmer and Shine,” and these grooms did not disappoint! Check out this blue suit and these loafers if you’re loving Bobby’s look like we are.

Vinny’s SPECTACULAR iridescent caftan is from Bearly Covered Clothing.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding From Vinny: The most memorable moments of the day were Bobby’s first look with his mother and my grand entrance down the staircase (if I do say so!) in my caftan of iridescent paillettes.

This lighting!!! All eyes on these two gorgeous grooms 😍

These princesses aren’t alone! Bobby + Vinny’s moving ceremony had the whole room in tears—including their vendors. Planner Kelly says: “The ceremony and words they said to each other left the entire room crying. Not a dry eye in the house, including myself and the florist Meg from The Little Branch. We had both worked so closely with the couple. It was truly one of the most heart-felt ceremonies.”

Balloon Girl Slo worked some magic for this epic balloon drop!!
Balloon moments like this one definitely deserve their place on the list of amazing exit ideas.

Our Musical Choices Processional: “Rainbow Connection” sung by Vinny's nephew, Andy Marchica.
Recessional: "Love Is In the Air" by John Paul Young
First Dance: "Happy Days Are Here Again/ Get Happy" duet by Barbara Streisand and Judy Garland

Vinny’s work as a creative executive for The Walt Disney Company was the root of the wedding’s Disney magic.

Can we talk about Bobby’s pink and gold floral lapel statement piece?!

Vinny says: “For most of our guests this was their first same gender wedding and we wanted to make it as memorable, unique, and fun as possible.”

Stylist (and Vinny’s best man) Estevan Ramos accompanied Bobby + Vinny on an epic shopping spree in Los Angeles where they chose their wedding day looks. Take a peek at these Steve Madden slip-ons if you’re obsessed with Vinny’s sparkly statement shoe.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now Best advice for those planning a wedding is to have a great wedding planner. Don’t do it on your own. We were lucky to have met Kelly at Bobby’s sister's wedding, and she was the best. Also we were debating on having a videographer, but were very glad we did.

We’re swooning for this vibrant, pink compote-style floral centerpiece.

A final thought from Vinny about appreciating vendors for the artist they are: “One of the things I learned from Disney is to let creatives be creative. We wrote a mission statement that stated that we were both progressive and open to new ideas and creativity outside the box. We told our wedding creatives, ‘If there is anything you’ve always thought of doing but were shy or reluctant to do, we’d love to hear your ideas.'”

What better sweet treat for this celebration than The Madonna Inn‘s famous pink champagne cake! Definitely fits the delicious portion of their theme!
Congratulations, Bobby + Vinny, on your fun and fabulous day!! Best wishes from GWS!!
