Rustic + Boho Wedding with a Sweet Southern Backdrop

Romantic Bohemian Wedding

He’s rustic, she’s boho, and together they’re wedding day is nothing short of a sweet, southern romance that looks as if it were taken straight from one of our favorite page-turners! Jenna + Michael even have the story to back it up. They’ve been in each others lives for a very long time, collecting a tribe of people around them who’ve witnessed the epic twists + turns of their love. And, after bringing their own unique rustic + boho styles to the day, it was the love of those people that influenced the major design elements of this darling wedding weekend!

Candice Lorraine of Ohh Events stepped in to help bring the vision together, telling us: From the beginning, Jenna and Michael wanted this wedding to be a party honoring the friends and family who brought them to marriage. Growing up as best friends and spending many years dating, Jenna and Michael were surrounded by people who knew them deeply and for a long time. This wedding was a truly a celebration of a lifetime spent together.

Rustic White Photography masterfully captured all the details…let’s have a look!

The Inspiration

I would say my inspiration for the wedding day was a vision that married (pun intended) my love for colorful, vintage, antique-esque aesthetics with an outdoor bohemian and rustic open-air barn we wish we could live in. We also were inspired to create a guest-centric event in which every element would ensure our guests had a relaxing, easy and fun experience. It was very important to us to make our wedding feel, and look, like an event that was tailored to the both of us.

This was present in our venue, Boone Hall Plantation, which was equal part the rustic feel that spoke to Mike and the bohemian, natural feel that spoke to me. It was also in our music choices (a tribute to our love of classic vinyl), the food (the menu included both of our favorite dishes), and all the way down to smaller elements such as the guestbook globe to represent of our love for travel, the vintage buses we used as transportation and the irises in the florals that were my mother’s favorite flower.

The Dress

Romantic Bohemian Wedding

Jenna found her Betty Gown by Wtoo by Watters at Fabulous Frocks of Charleston. Featuring chevron-stiched off-white lace over almond-colored satin, it was the perfect expression of Jenna’s bohemian bridal style!

Michael, meanwhile, suited up in a slate grey suit from Bonobos. (And we’re loving the bow tie + suspender combo on the guys!)

mixed bridesmaid dresses

Jenna called her girls her “Good Vibe Tribe” – so fitting! They carried bouquets of lavender, sporting sweet locks by Meg Ann Workman and fresh faces from Dannon Collard.

And, if you’re loving those pastel bridesmaid dresses like we are, start here to get the look!

As for Jenna’s bouquet, WildFlowers Inc. – true to their name – designed an overflowing bouquet that looks as if it were foraged from the most perfect field of blooms!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The ceremony, by far. Michael and I wrote our own vows which, after over 15 years of dating, certainly packed a lot of emotion, memories, meaning and laughter. Specifically, what plays in my mind on loop is the deep-breath moment right before walking out to Michael and my "Good Vibe Tribe" straight ahead. That's when time seemed to literally stop.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Start early! We could never have anticipated the amount of work, time, thought and tough decisions that go into planning a wedding weekend. Get a planner and do research to ensure they understand (and can pull off) your preferred aesthetic. Unless you fancy yourself a professional party planner, stylist or interior decorator, there is no resource better than a helpful eye. If you’re anything like me, your ideas are all over the place, so it’s necessary to have someone to bounce those ideas off of (or to talk you down from all your random decor diversions).

I suggest keeping a running list of ideas on a note in your phone or a journal, if you’re old school like me. Whether you like it or not (admittedly, I did not), wedding planning will be on your mind 24/7 and you never know what will inspire a decor element, or when a great idea will hit you. This helped me tremendously throughout the entire process.

Jenna had these final thoughts to offer for brides-to-be:

At the risk of sounding incredibly cliche, make sure you make an effort to take mental pictures of the once-in-a-lifetime moments speeding past you. It’s genuinely true that the wedding day will be over in the blink of an eye. You’ll remember maybe 25% of it, so take it all in whenever you can.

Also, carve out a moment to be alone with your newly minted husband (or partner) after the ceremony. Slot it into your itinerary if you have to. The amount of guest interactions you’ll have throughout the event could (and will) be endless, so it’s important to spend time intimately celebrating the gigantic commitment you just made. The absolutely overwhelming feeling of love is like nothing else. You’ll thank me later.

You simply must watch this sweet recollection by Life in Rewind. Such a special day and a beautiful love…congratulations Jenna + Michael!
