Sometimes you’re lucky in love, sometimes you’re lucky, and sometimes you’re BOTH! Phuong + Zac just happen to fall into the latter category. They won not one but TWO wedding giveaways—including one between Green Wedding Shoes and Birdy Grey! Phuong also won a giveaway from The Inn at Five Points, a darling little wedding venue in Saratoga Springs. The all-inclusive package meant P + Z got to work with creative pros like Five Points Design Co and day-of coordinator, Kate Taylor Events & Weddings. To make it even crazier, the happy couple handed over the reins to let their vendor team dream up the most magical tropical-inspired day. What’s it like to be surprised by your own wedding? We had to know:
Ninety percent of our wedding was a surprise to us. I know that sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen for most brides but for us, it was SO fun to just let our vendors do their thing! We chose outfits for us and our bridal party, the food, some invitation wording, and the important songs we wanted to be played. Otherwise, our vendors collaborated flawlessly to execute the rest. Just showing up on our wedding day was an absolute dream! We knew it was going to be beautiful but seeing it all come together, being surprised by the thoughtfulness of all of the details…we were absolutely blown away!

After winning the giveaway from Birdy Grey and GWS, Phuong let her girls choose any style dress they liked in sage—and every single one of them chose the Christina convertible dress!
Phuong wore the most rad gown by Grace Loves Lace. So obsessed with those off-the-shoulder floral fringe sleeves! And speaking of rad…loving Zak’s floral jacket by ASOS!
Our Favorite Memory
The most memorable moment had to be our first look! There was so much anticipation leading up to it…I couldn’t wait to see him and he couldn’t wait to see me. It was THE moment that made everything really sink in for us! Like, I knew when I woke up that morning that I was going to be marrying my best friend but it wasn’t until our first look that I was really like, “AHHHH HELL YEAH I’M ABOUT TO MARRY MY BEST FRIEND!!”

Our Advice
I highly recommend giving your vendors creative freedom. Trust me, they know what they’re doing and the number of resources and knowledge they have will trump any Pinterest board ideas you have, promise!! Ask them about new ideas they’ve been wanting to try and see if they can put a more fun or personal spin on an idea that you’re really loving!
So, what’s the final word on showing up to a surprise wedding?
This whole “let your vendors be creative and just show up to a beautiful wedding” thing—we’re ALL about it! Save yourselves the stress and leave it to the professionals! I can’t tell people enough how amazing it was to just enjoy being engaged. And, can I add, your bridesmaids will LOVE you! My bridesmaids were able to focus all of their attention on throwing me the best bachelorette ever! No planning stress pretty much guarantees you won’t turn into bridezilla. My girls actually called me “BrideChilla” because our whole process was so relaxed! Surprise weddings are a thing and we’re all here for it!
