Intimate Sayulita Wedding: Anna + Oliver

Sayulita Mexico Wedding

Sayulita has been on our travel shortlist for way too long + today’s intimate wedding, captured by Jamie of Rad + In Love, makes us want to hop a plane to Mexico stat! Anna + Oliver had good reason for choosing this beautiful destination for their big day. Anna says, I’m from Canada and Oliver is from Mexico but we are living in Germany. So we had plenty of logistical and language barriers to overcome. But we knew one thing from the start: we wanted to keep it small and simple. Mexico was an obvious choice for us. It’s a beautiful country that is very close to both of our hearts.

She goes on to tell us, Despite our having been together for over 6 years our families had never met one another. And since we would need to travel to be together, we wanted to plan more than 1 evening together. We ended up renting a large house on the beach to accommodate everyone for a week. This allowed enough time and space to properly break the ice and get to know one another.

It was really important to us that our wedding be small and relaxed. We both didn’t feel much attachment to many wedding traditions. So we spent most of our ‘planning’ time writing our own ceremony and vows that reflected our values.

Anna + Oliver worked with planner + stylist Gaby of Marweddings to achieve a relaxed, yet refined feel to their reception. The lovely florals were by Iris Design.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

I was happy we kept it small and I didn’t end up worrying about any formal procedure or details. I spent the morning on the beach with my family and the afternoon with Oliver. After dinner that evening we had a bonfire. It was very no fuss and it suited us perfectly.

Some people warned us we might regret not having a big wedding but I think they just didn’t understand our choice. We couldn’t be happier with our decision, it was what was right for us and we don’t regret it a bit.
