This past weekend, my hubby and I went to check out the Royal/T cafe and art gallery in downtown Culver City. Royal/T is a playful collision of an art exhibition space, a cafe and a concept shop within a 10,000 sf warehouse. Inspired by the meido kissa (maid café) phenomena of Akihabara–Tokyo’s electronic district, the waitresses dress in maid uniforms, with a Lolita-esque touch.
Royal/T offers a truly dramatic and unique setting for your wedding, rehearsal dinner, or bridal shower. There are a variety of ways to customize your event. Rent different areas of the space to suit the size or type of event—the VIP room for a bridal shower, the back space for a rehearsal dinner for up to 50 people or a cocktail party for 70 people, or the whole space for your wedding reception (for up to 260 people). Royal/T offers catering exclusively by Royal/T Cafe which serves a fusion of French and Japanese cuisine with local and organic California style.
We ate lunch at the cafe and it was delicious! We both had the black milk tea – they brought us a whole pot – so yummy! I had the Spicy Tuna Tartare sandwich and my hubby had the Wagyu Kobe Beef Burger. We are already planning to go back next month to try their breakfast :)
Sue Hancock, the owner, rotates the art every four months, so you never know what kind of art will be there, but the focus is on Japanese contemporary art. There is also an inventive concept store where they mix pop culture and high-end design which rotates every month. This room below is the VIP room. When we were there, a group of girls where throwing a bridal shower and they looked like they were having a blast! You can set up the room however you would like and there is also a large screen on the wall that animates.
I think this would be the perfect place for someone who is looking for something modern, fun, + with a bit of Japanese influence. Oh, and that image in the bottom right – it’s called a Porta Party. It looks like a giant iPod and when you go in, music is blasting and there is a disco ball inside! Such a fun place. More info and photos on the Royal/T website.
All photos from Royal/T and myself.
