Mary + Geoff’s wedding was truly a labor of love – even in their choice of photographer – Julia from Our Labor of Love! Geoff was born and raised in Oregon and when they began planning their wedding in Florida it was very important that their day really reflect who they are and incorporate as much as Oregon into it as possible. They had his parents collect rocks from the Oregon coast and they made stepping stones out of them to stand on during the ceremony. Such a sweet way of being in two places at once. :)
The wedding took place at Palm Valley Gardens in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The venue had a giant old house with a small pond and the majority of the day was outdoors. They also did as much DIY as they cold including: making the waving flags, drink stir sticks, bunting signs, painting their favorite quotes on signs, making old windows into chalkboards, and scouring thrift stores for vases + vintage china for the place settings. All the DIY was really worth it to them since it really showed who they are as a couple. Mary + Geoff are both hippies at heart and that was truly the guiding inspiration behind their details. Congrats to the happy couple!
Isn’t Mary’s Miss Tashina wedding dress so pretty! Love that she found her dress through this gorgeous styled shoot we shared last year! :)
Processional: All you need is love – The Beatles
Recessional: Sea of Love – Cat Power
First Dance: Home – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
My favorite memory of the entire day was the ceremony. I have heard other brides say this and until I experienced it I didn’t think it would be. I spent many hours feeling so nervous about it and in the end I truly felt like it was just him and I. The crowd disappeared and the nerves dissolved as soon as it began. I couldn’t even tell you who was sitting in the front row! We exchanged vows under a giant tree with my grandfather as the officiant. We wrote the ceremony from start to finish and it was worth the effort. Every word was “us” and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It was all followed by a night of southern cooking, music, cocktails and dancing.
My advice for those planning now is to forget about what you’re “supposed” to do and do things that truly move you and that you feel passionate about. These days anything goes when it comes to wedding details and it should represent the individuals getting married.
