Nika + Alex wanted a simple and meaningful wedding day. They spent their six month engagement shopping, sewing, collecting + sourcing. With lots of family and friends to help them put together their dream day, it was a real community effort – and tons of fun. :) Thanks so much to Tim Coulson for the gorgeous photos and congrats to Nika + Alex!
We made all the invitations and programs ourselves – and it was so much fun!
Processional: Nothing I Hold On To – Will Reagan and United Pursuit
Recessional: Do You Realize?? – The Flaming Lips
First Dance: The Book of Love – The Magnetic Fields
We used lots of dried wildflowers for the bouquets and florals at the reception. Mostly morrison, everlastings, statice, lavender and billy buttons.
We have three:
1. Seeing each other for the first time.
2. Making our vows.
3. Walking into the reception to 150 loved ones on their feet clapping and cheering and blowing on whistles - there was so much colour and warmth, we both felt very overwhelmed.
Our friend Jenny Currin made our cake for us. We gave her a picture of what we wanted and she made it a reality. It was chocolate with white chocolate icing. Friends of ours made 150 matching cupcakes to go with it. Our cake topper was a red love-heart we made out of felt, stuffing and string.
Have fun. Don't let the stress of planning keep you from enjoying each other during the season. Don't spend an unnecessary amount of money. Decide which things are important to you, and let the rest go. Op-shop! Keep focused on what it's about. And get a good photographer!
photography: Tim Coulson // ceremony: Fairbridge Chapel in Pinjarra, Western Australia // reception: Currawong Lodge at the Nanga Bush Camp in Dwellingup // wedding dress: Josie from Frances Baker // bridesmaids dresses: They were simple cotton dresses, each a different shade of green, with a different small floral print. We got the fabrics from Spotlight, and a dress-making friend of ours, Theresa, made them for us // make-up: Rebecca-Joanne, a make-up artist from All Of The Above Creative // groom suit: shirts and pants were Jack London; waistcoats were from DangerField (but they were all too small, so we got some brown corduroy from Spotlight and had the local guy at Rockingham City adjust them); the shoes were from Roger David // bow ties: Michaela // catering: wood fire pizzas by Bella Pitsa
Love the look and feel of this wedding… it reminds me of my own wedding!
This wedding is so pretty! Love all the handmade details and green color scheme…they give off such a warm and inviting feel!
Gorgeous, gorgeous! Love all the DIY details, especially the flag bunting and sweet lace details! Can’t help but dig those green wedding shoes *wink*
Wow, your wedding must’ve been so beautiful! I love it! Just by looking at the pictures and reading your little notes made me tear up! I love your cake! So simple yet I could feel so much! And the picture where all your photos were hung up, that was beautiful! Thank you so much for such a breathtaking inspiration!
Doesn’t hurt that they both look like models!
Janet,
I was very sad to miss this wedding as my husband had an accident.
It doesn’t hurt that they both look like models. Believe me, they are even more beautiful on the inside. They are truly amazing people that deserves everything wonderful coming their way. Really.
In Brazil it’s so difficult to make a simple and romantic wedding. We normally pay more than we can get, for so many visitants (we can never forget somebody from both families) and it’s often normal to start the life in couple with debts. In some cases we have a wedding with the bride participating, in rare moments the grooms make the event together. I think this type of wedding (Nika & Alex) is so much more romantic and lovely! It remembers me of my own wedding… I’ve inspired very much in this site to do so!
simple and sweet. love the color palette and the groomsmen wear!
This is just beautiful!! I’d love to see more green like this in weddings. I’d also love to see more of this type of JOY that the couple had. Really, really, beautiful! I also love that’s she advises brides to get a good photographer :)
the simplicity is lovely.
also, does anyone know where i can get her green jacket? i love it!
Awesome! I too love the casual element.
Everything is simple and sweet…
Loving the creativity of Aussie brides! Beautiful setting and cute bunting.
It’s like a fairytale come true. I’m so loving it!
so stinkin’ cute!
This wedding is truly wonderful… Everything is easy and lovely…
Love the green color scheme in the wedding and having a home made one is absolutely wonderful. It’s a once in a lifetime memorable experience.
Looks like a really laid back and effortless looking affair – really appreciate you sharing the wedding with us.
Does anyone know where I can get vests like the groom and groomsmen are wearing? That is the exact color and look I am searching for.
Thanks!
I’d like to know the same! I’m wanting those for my wedding next fall
everything looks so cosy and romantic, I love it!
Love love love this wedding! What material did you use on the banner??
Amazing style,
I’ve been trying to source the shirt the Groomsman wears and sadly the site doesn’t sell this colour. Damn, this is a really nice earthly colour scheme which I was hoping to go with and this shirt would of done the trick. :(
Really nice photos from what looks like it was really nice wedding.
Hi! I love this! I was wondering where you got the groomsmen outfits from? And what colour are their pants (I can’t quite tell). I’m hoping to imitate something like this for my wedding but am finding it difficult to find things!
I just want to say a big thank you Nika. My partner and I are getting married at Nanga in a few weekend’s time. We live in Melbourne but my husband-to-be is from Perth originally so we have friends and family there. I had no idea where to start with planning our wedding and how to pick a venue remotely. That’s when I found your blog and was so moved and inspired. We are recylcing quite a few of your beautiful ideas, right down to the wild flowers from Rhonda. Don’t know how I would have done it without you so a BIG thanks again! X
