We can’t help but be drawn to photos that place us in the heart of an adventure: on top of a mountain overlooking the ocean, a faraway countryside with no soul in sight, or basically any brilliant + undiscovered landscape. So when the notoriously adventurous photographer, Anni Graham, called this “one of the most meaningful shoots I’ve ever gotten to be a part of,” we took note.
Anni met up with Erin + Dirk in Iceland, where they travelled from Oakdale, California to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary. After four-wheeling along backroads and sleeping in their car, E + D ventured to a remote spot in the highlands where they planned to renew their vows:
Ten years of marriage and four kids later, life was feeling so busy. We never took a honeymoon after getting married and talked for years about taking an epic trip to make up for it. We decided on Iceland because we wanted to get lost in nature. It seemed like the perfect place to explore dynamic landscapes and experience something completely inspiring and brand new together.
Let’s get lost together in the romance + photos by Anni Graham!
Erin carried a bouquet of wildflowers that they picked along the way. SO perfect.
We car camped around the entire island for 10 days prior to meeting up with Anni. Having time to soak in all the beauty surrounding us and being away from our children longer than we ever had before, just put everything into perspective. It made our vow renewal extra emotional and unforgettable. The whole experience was just perfectly affirming and heartfelt.
Anni told us what it was like to witness the moving event: We walked up to the mountain where they began to pour their hearts out to each other, tears streaming down their faces, and no one around for miles. It felt like the whole world stood still for a moment. It truly was one of the most incredible moments I’ve had as a photographer, and is the core to what I believe weddings are about.
We’re all about this: ten years in and more in love than ever.
Erin wore a sweeping gown from Dreamers & Lovers – paired with hiking boots, of course! And we’re digging his rugged rust and chambray style.
When it came to the photos, E + D wanted to keep everything simple and organic, relying on the incredible landscape of Iceland to be the main focus.
After 10 years together, we figured these two might have some good advice for newly-engaged couples: Enjoy the process leading up to your wedding. Do what makes you happy and remember it’s just one day. It’s not the ONLY day. Your wedding doesn’t define you. The life you lead with the one you love is where the real investment should be.
As a special surprise, Anni’s husband filmed a video of the day and edited it together for Erin + Dirk…guys, it’s so sweet!
So inspiring, these two. Wishing E + D another 10 years of adventure and love!
