The Bride Wore a Gold Dress + Stunning Crown for Her Mexican Wedding

Mayan Opulent Affair

2-22-22 on a Tuesday! The couple knew exactly when and where they wanted their wedding but had no idea HOW! Their desired wedding date was 7 months away and K + R realized they needed professional help to make all their visions fall into place. They knew it’d be tough finding a planner that wasn’t already booked, so Kaya went to the top of her list and sent an email and as it turns out, wedding planner Diana Romo was available. The stars aligned!! When Diana met Kaya and Ron, it wasn’t by chance, it was one of those moments when the universe had something magical in store.

Kaya and Ron are a unique and fun duo, who have been together for 20 years and you can see their love for each other! Planning isn’t exactly Kaya’s cup of tea, but thanks to Diana, and Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design, the wedding turned out spectacularly. It was incredibly unique, starting with the ideas, colors, and details. Bride Kaya is an artist, and making her visions become a reality really brought her wedding to life. Their wedding day, in addition to numerology (02.22.2022), was a magical day at Chable Maroma, an equally magical resort, full of Mexican details with excellent interior design and we are so excited to share with you these photos taken by the talented Andre Gouin!

Why Not Gold?

The more bride Kaya shopped for gowns, the more she realized the traditional gowns weren’t for her. We asked her to share how she decided on a gold gown for her wedding day…

“It was 3 in the morning and my eyes were done with white dresses .. so, I googled, gold! It was a random color choice. It was the opposite of white. And while mostly I was just trying to cleanse my brain of bridal dresses… While looking at couture, the very first dress that appeared on my feed was THE ONE! Metallic Gold, Valentino. In that moment, I knew! I didn’t want a traditional wedding.  We knew we wanted a smaller, more intimate, gathering. .. so, why not, gold?”

A feather moment? YES PLEASE! Loving these fun shoes by Roberto Cavalli that truly brought this look together!

“I am a goddess, not a bride.”

That was the phrase that also ended up being an inspiration for the design of the day…

Ron isn’t the type that cared much about fashion, but he was connected with the most incredible stylist, Melinda Hovee Harlan, and together they made magic happen. Down to the matching, custom shoes, he and his daughter Zoë wore. Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen. Oh my! We definitely approve!!

Gold wedding shoes anyone? We love how his George Esquivel oxfords match Kaya’s gown!

Inspiration for the Day

Mayan Opulent Affair

The big day took place in Riviera Maya, Mexico and the couple wanted to embrace the authentic local culture, from the welcome bags to their Mayan Ceremony.

Mayan Opulent Affair

It was all about the details for this couple! They were inspired by the beautiful aesthetic of their hotel, Chable Maroma, and the Mayan culture embraced there.

STUN-NING! The textures and color tones were a dream. A gracious mix of jewel tones, it was the perfect visual representation of the couple’s love.

They even took inspiration from florals. Staying true to the jungle setting, Kaya wanted all the greens and dark florals mixed with fruit… such as grapefruits, pineapples, plantains, etc.

Mayan traditions are filled with deep spiritual meaning that ties both the soul and nature together. A Mayan wedding ceremony must be officiated by a native priest, known as a Shaman. This ceremony includes different elements including musical instruments, songs, and sacred rituals. The bride and the groom establish their love among the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air, to provide good energy, harmony, and success in their marriage.

The couple’s friend – and DJ – Kon is widely known for his disco flavor. So the couple made sure to drip the decor with disco balls! You know we love lots of disco balls!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

As I sit here and replay the day, I’m transported back. I’m crying. It was all so magical. I don’t know how to pick just one memorable moment. We created matching mandalas while setting our intention for the day.. and we didn’t even know it. Our first look. Expressing our love for one another next to the ocean waves. The sound of the Mayan drums beating in sync with my heart as I said, I DO. Looking into his eyes after our first kiss as husband and wife. And then, there’s the reception. Walking into the palapa and seeing our imagination come to life. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Literally, breathtaking. I remember crying and thanking Diana, 100x over and over again. There’s no way I could have 1/2 produced what they created. There was an abundance of food, laughter, good music, love.

The Cupcake Boutique made the coolest wedding cake that was a complete surprise for Ron. It was rolled out to The Imperial March and as you can see, the cake had Star Wars breaking out of the back! Kaya wanted to do something fun and unexpected… and he loved it!

Isn’t this bride stunning?!

Planner Diana suggested to Kaya to add a tarot reader who was a big hit among the guests! We love this idea as a fun activity for your guests.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

My advice is go with whatever makes your heart smile! Seek professional help the moment you begin to feel overwhelmed - Wedding planner, Therapist, etc. Go unplugged. We didn’t want cell phones in our wedding pictures. But also, we wanted our friends and family to be present. With us. And with that said, get a fun Photo Booth (shout out to PicMe Photobooth) everyone loves it and you end up with fun, silly shots.

Lastly, bride Kaya shares — “I’m happy that Ron goes along with all my wild ideas. As long as it fit in the budget, he was fine with it. In 6 months we put together the wedding of our dreams. I let go of what I thought it was supposed to be and l went with every crazy idea that floated my way. To this day, I’m still on cloud 9!”

We are so happy for Kaya and Ron and wish them years of happiness to come!
