Looking for Fun Elopement Ideas? Why Not Try a Helicopter Wedding!

Canada Helicopter Elopement

Flying high with a helicopter wedding?? We’re there! Sabrina + Sebastien were looking for a fun elopement activity to make their wedding day extra memorable, and they were inspired by a vintage picture. They had just purchased their new dream home in Les Cèdres Quebec, and inside, was a birds-eye view of the house from a helicopter. They fell in love with the picture, so they decided to recreate the moment on their wedding day. After exchanging vows in the woods behind their home, they took off for the incredible ride. They finished off their elopement day with cake + champagne in the back field at sunset. The couple’s photographer, Kerstin Hahn, shares more about this unique story:

It all started with a house. In early 2020, Sabrina and Sebastien started the search for their first home. When they first visited the house, which they now call their home – they were fascinated by a picture that was hung on a wall in the attic. The lady who was selling the house spent her entire life there, and so she told them about the story of this photo, which was a photo of the house taken from a helicopter in 1960, exactly 60 years ago. The picture was first taken in black and white then was enlarge and coloured. The couple immediately fell in love with the house and the history behind it. Since they didn’t need to spend any budget on rentals, food or entertainment, they made their dream come true and decided to do a helicopter ride to see their house from above.

Ready for the ride of a lifetime?? Let’s fly!

First Look in the Fields

Fleuriste Valleyfield created the perfect rustic, Autumnal farmhouse florals for the couple. Their vision was folksy meets boho and we think they nailed it!

Having finally bought our dream house in the countryside, it was obvious that we had to get married at home, in our field, in the woods! So it was clear that the theme was to go with a Country, Bohemian, Folksy Chic aesthetic. In addition to having decided to get married in the fall, the orange colors & tones were present in order to harmonize everything.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

It went so quickly and was so awesome, it’s hard to say… We think that the most emotional part for the both of us was when we first saw each other. It instantly brought tears to our eyes.

Otherwise, the helicopter ride was for sure freaking amazing! From when we took pictures just before we took off, all the way until the end by having an incomparable view of the sunset right up in the air!

An Epic Helicopter Wedding

What do you wear for a helicopter wedding? A sleek Maximus suit and a stunningly flowy Eva Lendel gown from Ana Koi Bridal. S paired her flowy dress with a flowy hairstyle by Nargess Heed. She shares more about the dream dress:

At first, I thought I wanted to have a long sleeve, mermaid dress, but as it turned out (hehe)… It’s not the ideal dress to choose when you get married out in nature, in the woods, on a field. To make a long story short, the dress I had already bought was not the right one for me. And so, only 1 week before my wedding date… Yes, you can imagine the anxiety I was having…  I had returned to the starting point of not having a dress for the big day! I finally found that the dresses I liked and could afford BUT they were all in Toronto.

There were two choices, wear a dress that I don’t like or give it a go and take a little road trip. At this point, the decision was easy. I called my friend, and we went on this road trip! It didn’t take long that I noticed it. That magnificently gorgeous Pocahontas-like dress. A little reminiscent of the boho-chic style I wanted so much!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Plan in advance, shop in advance. But most importantly, sit down together and figure out what the two of you want. Don't plan this 'once in a lifetime day' for anyone else than you.

We are so on board for more helicopter weddings and adventure elopements! What do you say?? We’ll let Sabrina + Sebastien leave you with their final piece of advice:

All in all, getting married in a pandemic was not the worst thing. Hell, it was even more than perfect. Elopements are truly the best! Especially during these difficult times. You don’t have to worry about the safety of your guests and you can do whatever the heck you want!  You just have to choose the right photographers who will be present and accompany you on your journey!

Now I can hear you thinking so far… Why not wait for the pandemic to end? Because in life you don’t know what tomorrow has in store for you, and celebrating our 10 years of love couldn’t wait. (We got married on our 10 anniversary of being together)
