Maybe the most explosive wedding day GWS has ever seen?!
Alissa + Steven fell for each other in music school when they were both eighteen, and their plan was to celebrate their love and the decade they’ve spent together by getting married in Iceland in August of 2022. Lucky for this fearless pair, on August 3rd Mt. Fagradalsfjall–an active volcano southwest of Reykjavík–began to erupt.
Wedding planners at Pink Iceland pitched the couple a wild idea: why not use this chance to go full adventure mode and do something absolutely unforgettable…like get married at the base of the erupting volcano?
They went for it. The result? A wedding day straight out of your favorite big-budget fantasy series.
The Pink Iceland team took every safety concern into consideration and created an unmatchably epic wedding day for Alissa + Steve, and photographers Styrmir & Heiðdís were there to catch every magnificent moment.
The two arrived at the base of the volcano in a helicopter, took in the mind-blowing scenery, and then hiked five miles in the rain to their ceremony location.
Mt. Fagradalsfjall’s eruption was being monitored by a team of scientists. If wind conditions were deemed unsafe the hiking trails would be closed. Lucky for the fearless bride + groom, winds were good, and the trails stayed open for their big day!
How many couples can check “boozy, volcano-side wedding day picnic” off of their bucket lists?

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding Experiencing one of the most breathtaking sights with my best friend. We have been together since we were 18 and had seen a lot of amazing places over the years but the volcano was unlike anything we had ever seen before.
The bride’s stunning dress is the work of All Who Wander. Alissa was drawn to the brand because their ethereal, free-spirit bridal looks spoke to her own style. This billowy boho silhouette fits PERFECTLY with the wild Icelandic landscape.
Steven’s 3-piece suit in rich earth tones came from ASOS Men, and both are rocking some serious hiking footwear by Keen.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now Get advice from the experts! Pink Iceland was absolutely incredible at making sure we felt safe and comfortable the entire time. They helped plan the entire event from start to finish. Also, it may appear like it would be hot there because of the lava but on the contrary it was freezing so definitely bring a jacket.

Wow. Spectacular is one word that comes to mind. Firstly amazing photos! But what an awesome couple. To go for a shoot while a volcanic eruption is going on behind you, all in the name of art! I only wish more of my couples were that dedicated to the shoot!
