Earlier today we shared a new trend we are lovingggg right now in the wedding industry – flower hats! We’ve seen them a ton on our site AND all over social media. And while the hats we’ve shared typically use fresh flowers, we’re bringing you this super simple DIY using a hat you probably already have in your closet by adding some pretty dried flowers, thanks to Afloral.
As you guys know, we have partnered with Afloral for so many great DIYs this year because we love the long-lasting, GOOD quality flowers you can purchase from them. And while this DIY is unique on a lot of levels, we really love it because these flowers won’t die. Ever. Rad, right? So you can go on wearing this bridal hat long past your wedding festivities and into other fun things in life too.
Here’s how we made our floral hat…
What You’ll Need:
• Assorted flowers from AFloral – we chose a variety of dried flowers + poppies from their preserved page!
• hat (we used this one from Sole Society! so cute)
• floral wire
• glue gun
Step 1: Take your floral wire and wrap around your hat base to make the correct size ‘wreath’ for your flowers. Twist the end pieces together to keep locked together.
Step 2: Start by adding your base flowers first – like the wheat we picked – and start wrapping them around the floral wire ‘wreath’ you made. We secured these first pieces with smaller clips of floral wire and wrapped it to the main frame of the wire.
Step 3: Finish off with all your additional florals. Our focal flowers were poppies so we kept those sporadic but chic. These were also secured with wire, but we also used a bit of glue from a glue gun to further secure down to the frame. You won’t want to get any glue on your hat so that you can remove the florals later should you want to re-use!
