Here’s a fun little project to get your maid of honor and bridesmaids involved in thanks to our friends at Smitten on Paper! These pom poms are a breeze to make and are easy for anyone to do. You just need a couple supplies you can pick up at your local fabric store and a bit of imagination. :)
Here is what you need:
• polyester fabric (it’s light and frays easily)
• thread
• sewing needle
• scissors
• cording
Step 1:
Cut a small slit into your fabric into long stripes about 1.5 inches wide by 36 inches long. The wider the fabric, the bigger your pom!
Step 2:
This is the step that makes you feel like you’re a contestant on Project Runway-tear the fabric all the way down to the end! You don’t need to cut the fabric all the way to the end, a small slit will allow you to tear the rest.
Step 3:
Run your hands along the edges of the fabric to get rid of any of the loose ends. This will also fray the edges a bit.
Step 4:
Now, just do a running stitch along one edge of the fabric. Make sure to keep the stitches close and tight or else you will end up with a sloppy looking pom or a pinwheel.
Step 5:
Once you’ve reached the end, the fabric should be pretty scrunched together. Finally, just put the two ends together and stitch them securely together. That’s it! Now you can think of fun ways to use them throughout your celebration.
We used them as garland with a couple little banner tiles with bride & groom initials. We also draped them across a DIY chalkboard menu. Too cute. One of our favorite uses for these little pom poms is to use them as toppers for favor boxes. These little guys would be so cute for the holidays or as little surprises for your guests at your next dinner party! Enjoy!!!!
