Here at GWS, we see countless cakes + invitations come through, and keep a pulse on what designs are trending. So with each season + passing year, we’re thrilled to see what artistic creations we come by and share them all with you! One thing we really love is how an invitation can set the tone for the celebration and then how it is translated into the event. For example, say you’re sending out a watercolor-inspired invite — you could then incorporate pastel florals, watercolor escort cards, and even a watercolor painted cake! There are so many ways to tie the whole day together and we’re pretty darn giddy about the possibilities!
Minted is our go-to for stylish invites, so we pulled a couple of our faves to see them alongside matching cakes by Cathy Haebe of Knead to Make! Cathy used the invitations as the source of inspiration and crafted confectionary masterpieces fit for a fête. A few of the cake trends you’ll see include: marble + stone-inspired cakes, rose gold (as seen above), tropical + banana leaf, and hand lettering! TRENDS: Stone/Agate, Marble, Metallics
Marble is everywhere these days, and we love that it’s truly a trend that’s built to last. It comes in so many color ways — white + gray, watercolor hues, jet black — and it is often mixed with a sprinkling of metallics or even geodes, we’re pretty keen on this one! Seen above is the Simple Agate wedding invitation.

TRENDS: Monochromatic, Pastels, Dramatic Florals, Rose Gold
Who else loves rose gold as much as we do?? We’re majorly crushing on the luxe addition of the rose gold foil, seen on the Folio wedding invitation. In addition to that, many are opting for a monochromatic palette — so when you pick a color (be it blue, green, pink, or gray, etc.), you stay within that color spectrum, but change up the saturation. This adds a nice contrast with the lighter and darker versions of the color.
