A Colorful Street Art Wedding in Strasbourg, France

Street Art Wedding

Marie + Waze (aka Pierre-François)—a super cool bride + groom from Strasbourg, France—wanted their wedding to feel like them.

“We’re a simple couple who wanted a simple wedding,” they say. “We like to laugh, eat, and party.” These two love to gather friends and family at their home, but they knew their wedding would be too big an event to throw on their own turf. Luckily they had an amazing spot in mind.

La Grenze in Strasbourg is a sprawling music venue and event space filled with picnic tables and food trucks and covered in vibrant street art. Marie + Waze already have plenty of memories there with family and friends.

Waze is a super-talented street artist, and a “street art” theme fit their hip, colorful vibe perfectly. Plus it amplified the artwork all over their venue. They collaborated with friend and wedding planner Mélanie of Féelicité to bring their simple, edgy wedding day to life. And Photography by Chloe took gorgeous pictures along the way.

Allons-y! Let’s take a look!!

Ochre, orange, terracotta, mustard, and coral were the starring colors of the day, and paper goods by planner Féelicité put them to good use! These cheeky invites were drawn and designed by Waze himself and poke fun at the pandemic-related postponements that the couple dealt with. In English the first one says: “Do you think they are going to do it?” The second one says: “Do you think they are going to postpone?” And the last one says: “Do you think that it cost them a lot in wedding invitations?”

Marie knew she didn’t want a traditional dress. And when she first started looking for her dream wedding day look back in 2019, the idea of a cropped two-piece set was still pretty avant-garde in France. Friend and planner Melanie pointed her towards designer Déborah Baumgarten and Debo Collection, and she found this stunning ensemble made up of a removable high-neck lace blouse, a cropped bodice, and a full and flowy tulle skirt.

Le Comptoir du Az’Art created the day’s bold and beautiful dried floral arrangements including Marie’s bright bridal bouquet.

Also, we adore bridal sunglasses as a wedding day accessory, and we can’t get enough of Marie’s hexagonal tortoiseshell sunnies. Check out this similar pair!

Marie + Waze’s daughters wore their own versions of their mom’s two-piece wedding outfit! And Waze looked cool and casual in an airy off-white jacket brown and white Nike Air Max sneakers.

A big reason Marie + Waze opted for dried flowers was to keep their wedding as eco-conscious as possible. They also recycled cans and beer bottles to make vases! Take a look at some tips for planning an eco-friendly wedding if fresh cut florals and their footprint aren’t your vibe.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Marie: "There are several! When my daughters saw me in my wedding dress when we did the first look. I saw the emotion in the eyes of Pierre-François who turned around with our daughters holding his hands.
When we toasted with our family and witnesses when leaving the town hall.
And the ceremony which took place at La Grenze and which was orchestrated and conducted by Renaud, a very close friend. We didn’t want to know the content of the ceremony so we could only be surprised, and it was one of the most beautiful moments of our lives. Renaud took up the challenge of making a solemn moment funny.
Our entrance in the venue: everyone was waiting for us and clapping, and instead of doing the traditional entrance, we decided to hide while projecting a slideshow of all the good moments we’ve had with everybody, and we played a sweet song by Birdy Nam Nam remixed by Beat Torrent – “Abesses.” It was for us a way to thank them all."

Pierre-François: "The whole adventure was incredible, full of twists and turns, but as we always do, we succeeded once again. My most memorable moment was when I went to the other side of the barriers that separated the dressing rooms from the ceremony space, and I saw all my relatives, friends, family, everyone dressed in the dress code (caps for the men, flashy nail polish and earrings for the girls, sneakers for everyone), all with a glass in their hand, already celebrating, shouting, and applauding us in the least formal atmosphere possible but so powerful nevertheless and full of emotion and sincerity. I would like to live this magic day again!"

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Don't let other people's ideas get in the way. Do what you want to do. It's your day and it has to be about YOU. It is a day rich in emotions and strong moments. Take 5 minutes off several times during this day to realize what’s happening because this day, as everyone has already likely told you, passes fast in a blink of an eye.
