Of all of nature’s wonders, the ocean holds a special place in our hearts. From the colors at sunset and the salty sea breeze to the ebb + flow of the tide, there’s no lack of inspiration to be drawn from the water! Jenn + Derrek, the photographers behind Flora + Fauna, agree – and they turned to the tide for the inspiration behind this beautiful day:
Our business name, Flora + Fauna, means “plants and animals” in Latin. We fell in love with this term as a representation of our business because we find so much inspiration in nature. When curating a styled shoot, we always think about the world around us and how we can pull inspiration from nature. Growing up in Florida, we’ve always had an appreciation for our beaches. For this styled shoot, we looked to the ocean. It wasn’t very hard for us to find inspiration! We love the relationship that the tides and moon have; they work together so beautifully.
One thing we simply LOVE about this editorial is that Flora + Fauna shot it on film! There’s a romance to film photography that we just can’t get over. From the click of the camera, to the anticipation of seeing that final frame…it’s magic!
Speaking of magic — let’s go ahead and dive in to the photos, yes??
ADORE this vintage ring! And it looks sooo pretty in The Mrs. Box.
The Florals
The Wilding Collective designed the florals with a mixture of foraged + natural, and fresh + dried.
We love what Becky at The Wilding Collective had to say about building this bouquet: I’m always noticing things in nature that I didn’t notice before and I’m constantly thinking of ways to make my designs feel natural and not ridged…which is a huge challenge for me in this industry. Like the dried palm in this bouquet (roadside find) that so beautifully follows the movement of the dress. That was honestly a happy accident. When things are handpicked from nature and added into design it just feels like it’s meant to be.
The Water: Ianassa by Carol Hannah
DREAM! Doesn’t the flow of her Ianassa gown by Carol Hannah remind you of the tide rolling in? We can’t help but think this dress represents the ocean…
Such stunning shots!!
A Seaside Sweetheart Table
A vintage table and the crashing waves…sounds (and looks!) heavenly!
We love how every element of this day mirrors nature in some way: the weathered wood, the stoneware table setting, the natural fibers of the linens…perfection.
Nothing like a little ocean spray, right?!
The Moon: Dynamene by Carol Hannah
THIS dress! An iridescent silk sequin tiered gown in “Mist,” the Dynamene most definitely reflects qualities of the moon.
Love the idea of a blue or silver wedding dress as much as us?? Here are a few ideas to get you inspired!

Beauty and the Beach
The bride looked every bit the Siren, with hair by Casey with Modern Classic Beauty and shimmering makeup by Blush & Mane.
Just gorgeous! Isn’t it amazing how something so abstract can transform into such lovely inspiration? Thank you to the entire team for sharing your creativity and vision with us!
