Who would have thought that two polar opposite wedding styles, black-tie and boho, could come together to create such a rad wedding!! When Sherrie + Chris began planning their Yosemite wedding at Pines Resort on Bass Lake, they knew they wanted it to be fun, personal, and modern. With the help of event planners, Brannan Events, they nailed the aesthetic with some creative details like dried floral installations, velvet linens, a mirror-top head table, and disco details like iridescent name cards, neon signs and disco ball drinks. What’s even more inspiring is that S + C planned this stunning event while S was battling cancer. Here’s what she says about how the process brought them closer together than ever:
There was a lot to deal with in terms of health, body image and the stress of wedding planning. In the end, we decided to keep with our original plans. That worked out well for us because the wedding kept us focused, motivated and it was our way of fighting back. We received tons of support from our loved ones, it certainly drew us closer and made us and stronger. I put on a wig and felt every bit as beautiful!

Geometric Details
We love us some geometric wedding details and these cool invitations by Prim and Pixie do not disappoint! We also love how S + C incorporated custom wooden elements into the rsvp cards and menus.

Beautiful Teal Bridesmaids
A black-tie wedding needs incredible fashion, and S’s bridal party rocked their gorgeous teal dresses. S’s lace bridal gown came from The White Flower Bridal Boutique and Status Salon got all of the ladies camera ready!
We love how creative S got with her wedding flowers. Her bridal bouquet showcased unique blooms like blushing bridal protea, and white king protea for a lot of texture.
Ceremony Setup By the Lake
We love it when couples include creative details in their wedding design that can then be taken home, reused and enjoyed for years to come! S shared with us how they re-purposed many of their decorations:
Personalizing some of the key features was important to us, such as our wedding arch, the place cards board, and the neon lights. We selected and procured items that we could re-purpose after the wedding. For example, the gates that were welded for the arch, we installed in our backyard afterward. Also the shelving ledges for the place cards boards, as well as the frames on the family photo tree board. That way, we are reminded of this special day every time we use these items in our daily lives afterward.
We spent the morning helping out with setting up because we just love being hands-on and fully involved. Seeing the crew and our wedding party come together assembling the site like a well-orchestrated event was a joy to us one of the most memorable things about our special day. We definitely feel the love from everyone thinking about how they did all these for us.
When it came time to get ready, it began to sink in for us that the 10 months in planning has brought us to this point. The walk down the aisle and when we first set eyes on each other was a huge moment and an out of body experience. When we exchanged our vows and hearing the most heartfelt words from each other, it had to be the most beautiful memorable moment.

The Newlyweds
Loving how creative S + C got with their textures! We can NEVER get enough velvet and when it’s teal velvet? Well… it’s to die for!!!

We had a specific vision in mind that would have not materialized if not for our planner. She has so much knowledge, experience and gave us access to a full range of vendors, not only that, Elise was able to hone in and paint that vision into 3D for us. Her input was invaluable.
Being big on family, we wanted to make sure that day was not just about us but about the family and friends coming together. We had 28 kids attending our wedding, it was so much fun and it would not have that joyous vibe if they were not there.
Lastly, a large group of guests were from overseas or interstate, so we make sure that we set aside time either before or after our wedding to hang out with them as the day itself went by so quickly that it just wasn't enough time for deep interactions.
Creative Details

Dried Floral Reception Decor
Bewilder Floral created sustainable floral magic on wedding day! S told us her guests STILL talk about the floral ceremony arch and amazing dried floral hanging installation above the head table. She shares:
We collaborated with our florist Larisa from Bewilder Floral to focus on sustainability and she gave us many ideas like using a mixture of dried vegetation and locally grown flowers. We were in awe by her creation.

Desert Table Goals
Frosted Cakery created the dessert table of our dreams! S + C were all about the dessert options. Here’s what they shared:
Both of us have sweet tooths and since we had a huge party of kids at our wedding, desserts were a big deal. We decided to downscale our cake size and pack different varieties of sweets with cheesecake shots, apple turnovers, cupcakes, tarts, and cookies. There’s something for everyone. Most importantly, we provided gluten-free choices and that went a long way with our guests.
A Magical Night
Hanging greens, custom draping and fairy lights made a magical atmosphere for guests at the reception!
