For Julie + Chris, the decision to elope was completely spontaneous. The planning process was becoming overwhelming and with a small mention of eloping from Chris’ mom, the direction of all their plans changed in an instant. Chris says, Jules and I had planned to go to Iceland as a pre-wedding trip. We were about three months into the wedding planning process with our coordinator and had already booked a venue, photographer and just about to make a decision on flowers. We decided to go visit my family and they asked Jules how she was enjoying the process. She said, “It is honestly overwhelming.” My parents asked, “So why don’t you just get married in Iceland?” And within twenty four hours, with our family’s consent, we made the big decision to drop the traditional wedding and elope.
Julie + Chris knew that if they were going to tie the knot, just the two of them in another country, it was more important than ever to find the best photographer + videographer to capture their day to later share with family + friends. A few parting words from the sweet newlyweds, Our favorite memory was the ceremony itself. There were so many factors that made it memorable. The little black church perched on top of the hill, the Icelandic pastor who looked and spoke as if he came out of the 20th century. The fact we hummed our recessional because we had no music and that the wind was blowing so hard that the little church shook like a haunted house. For some people this isn’t what they picture, but that is what made it so magical. It wasn’t the perfect ceremony orchestrated to perfection, it was simply two people in love, shooting from the hip, creating an experience that could be laughed about and cherished for the rest of their lives. It was the unexpected things that made it so perfect.
