For the Couple That Loves Nature + Minimalism: Ash Hilton Jewellery

Ash Hilton Jewellry

Do you + your love adore nature? Or perhaps you’ve got a penchant for minimalism? Well, for the couple that has an affinity for either one of those things — or both! — we’ve got a match made in heaven. Introducing Ash Hilton Jewellery, a New Zealand-based family business that focuses on crafting beautiful rings from ethical materials. Ash is a hand-engraver, so many of the rings feature minimalistic designs of trees or mountains, creating a truly unique gem. And for those wanting to personalize their ring, you could get the mountain range where you got engaged, the tree you said your vows under, or even the coastline where you fell in love… So many dreamy options!

Ash + his team (his wife + two little ones) value the process and love getting to know their customers — their story + details — to create a truly personal experience + ring. They create all of their pieces from the workshop next to their home in a lovely seaside village in New Zealand and they only use New Zealand alluvial gold. They share Our business is defined by our ethics. We made a decision a long time ago to never get so big to lose site of where our materials come from or to shift our production out of our home workshop. We’ll tell you a little more about the process below!

Ready to fall in love with all of their creative designs? Let’s take a look!

The Ash Hilton workshop is located right next to his home, and he jokes: We love it! We can split our time equally between work and the kids which is awesome for two reasons: 1) It is so awesome to hang out with your kids all day, and 2) It is so awesome not to have to hang out with your kids all day.

The team at GWS is all for family operations + following your passions… So for us, this is super cool!!

Traditionally mined gold comes from giant pits in the earth where the rock is crushed and then cyanide is poured over the rubble to extract the gold. Once the gold is extracted, you’re left with incredible amounts of toxic mining waste, just waiting to become an environmental disaster. One gold wedding ring creates 10-20 tons of mining waste. The gold we use is extracted by water and leaves no toxic mining waste. We use only recycled heirloom diamonds or manmade alternatives.

All of the gold used in Ash’s designs comes from New Zealand; West Australian Argyle diamonds are used to create a stunning starry sparkle. Other pieces in his collection are crafted from recycled and reclaimed silver and copper.

Many of the rings crafted by Ash Hilton represent natural places that are significant to the couple… Whether that be trees, beaches, stars, or mountains — Ash can completely customize the design!

Originally a chef whipping up culinary delights in New Zealand, Ash shifted gears in 2003 after taking a jewelry design course. He loved the way materials influenced the design and after much practice, he was able to quit his day job and work on jewelry full-time starting in 2005.
