As Autumn Turns to Winter: Minimal Wedding Inspiration

Fall Bountiful Minimalism

We know. It’s easy to skip over the final days of fall and declare winter’s arrival with one last bite of pumpkin pie. But there is so much inspiration to gain from that brief space between! And that time from abundance to bareness is just the type of melancholy that inspired today’s minimal wedding shoot. Trust us, you’ll get inspired by the description alone from Marisa at Revel Petals:

Fall in Oregon is a time of plenty, and a time of beauty, and a time of transition into winter’s temporary grave. Autumn is hauntingly beautiful, and yet the bounty of harvest contrasts with the austere emptiness of the tree branches; their ripe fruit, having long since fallen, and their leaves having vacated their perches on the spindled twigs. It is this contrast of plenty and emptiness that so reminds us of traditional wedding vows; in tilth and fallow, in bounty and fruitlessness, in vitality and dormancy, till death do us part.

Our inspiration comes from this twilight space where both fullness and emptiness exist at the same time. And so we styled a minimal wedding with the richness of autumn; the fullness of leaves and hydrangea in the hanging installation and the texture of bare bramble peaking from behind. Fall fruits and flowers in an empty warehouse space. An exuberantly decorated cake next to a barren branch. And in between these extremes, we found something magical.

Swoooon. Let’s have a look at the photos from Kris LeBoeuf:

fall wedding invitation suite

Be still our hearts! The perfect shade of forest green, watercolor accents, gold foil, and romantic calligraphy? Letters And Dust created the most beautiful invitation suite—looking dreamy next to that chartreuse Nettle Textiles ribbon.

The Autumnal Floral Designs

No doubt about it—Revel Petals created several works of art for the day, but this cloud of hydrangeas and branches is a stunner.

A Wintry Reception

Fall Bountiful Minimalism

We’re loving the mix of full, blooming hydrangeas with simple stemmed roses + bare branches. Such a lovely contrast!

Cake in Bloom

Fall Bountiful Minimalism

This unusual cake by Sweetheart St. Johns makes us want to hop on a plane to Portland! It’s a hummingbird cake with banana + pineapple, filled with passionflower curd, spicy nectarine-tangerine marmalade, chocolate chestnut mousse, and covered in vanilla bean frosting. Oh—and it sure is pretty, too!

Beautiful! Thanks to Marisa and the entire team behind the day for sharing your inspiration with us!
