For the Love of Emerald City… A Wizard of Oz-Inspired Elopement

Wizard of Oz Wedding Inspiration

A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.” Isn’t that beautiful? You know who wrote those darling words? L. Frank Baum, the author of The Wizard of Oz! And that, my friends, is where today’s inspiration stems from! Highlighting the darker and moodier elements, the team behind this edgy editorial focused more on the Wicked Witch of the West, the haunted forest, and the Emerald City Palace.

The planner, Chantilly Couture, shares: We made sure to incorporate the colors we are all familiar with when relating to the Wizard of Oz: green, gold, purple and black, but we wanted them to be a bit more muted and moody, so we added our own twist within that color scheme.

Timeless bridal accessories and the moodiest of vibes have definitely won us over!

moon backdrop

The backdrop took on a sort of whimsical notes with the fun crescent moon shape (which we could see being used for so many different themes — rustic, modern, even vintage-inspired!). Topped with overgrown, lush florals from The Wild Mother — it’s elegant, yet wild.

HOLY SMOKES. When it came to the delightful desserts, Amy Cakes pulled out all the stops. Not only did she impress with an emerald geode cake, but she dazzled with the painterly designs, too! As you might have guessed, they got their inspiration from the towering palace and Emerald City!

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the groom’s sharp suit! From The Wardrobe OKC, it featured a cool almost snakeskin-like texture…

The Wicked Witch of the West would always appear and disappear in smoke so we thought the smoke bombs would serve as a small + sweet nod to her…

How cool was that?! Moody, romantic, whimsical and refined when it came to the theme. Thanks so much to the team behind this creative Wizard of Oz-inspired editorial!
