I love sharing the wedding of couple’s engagements we’ve shared here on Green Wedding Shoes. Do you remember Mary + Mike’s sweet music + butterflies inspired engagement photos? Well, today I’m sharing their gorgeous wedding photographed by the talented Joy of Wildflowers Photography. Their wedding took place at one of my favorite venues, Calamigos Ranch in Malibu and I think you’ll soon see after looking at the photos why the venue is so amazing (a carousal? a ferris wheel? a ceremony under a huge tree with lights cascading down?? so perfect). Their wedding is full of music + love, what could make for a more amazing day! Thanks so much to Mary + Mike for sharing some of their details with us today also.
From Mary + Mike, “We tried to incorporate everything that is meaningful and significant in our lives as well as have everyone involved be those we are close to….including Mary’s brother who officiated our wedding. Being that Mike is a musician and we both love music, we were blessed enough to have many of our friends perform songs that we chose throughout the ceremony and reception. And right after our dear friend Nikki Olivia sang during our first dance, we even surprised our guests by singing “Jackson” by Johnny Cash & June Carter. Also, Mary loves and appreciates photography so it wasn’t even a question that we would work with Joy and include various other photo options for our guests. We thought, the more memories the better. Rosemary Olsen, a dear friend, brought to life every idea we had for decorations which created the vintage romantic vibe that we envisioned.”
She even had butterflies on her shoes! If you are wondering why butterflies, they both said they felt butterflies the first time they met, so they used them in their engagement photos + wedding – so sweet!!
What song did you walk down the aisle to? Vampire’s Kiss by John Gold
Most memorable moment of your wedding day? Mike: The exchange of vows was certainly the most memorable for me. The words were beautiful and the Silver Lake Chorus sang as we exchanged vows. Mary: The first time I saw Mike while walking down the aisle, the exchanging of our vows, and our first kiss as husband and wife…some of the best moments of my life! Oh, and having Joy photograph us…it was like the whole world went quiet and we were able to lavish in the splendor of this new adventure.
How cute is this hand painted canvas of the two of them singing to each other as children!!
Mary’s wonderful father built a music sheet wall which displayed all of the songs Mike had ever written for Mary – wow, how super sweet!
They gave Biscotti’s as parting gifts – their last name! :)
Any advice for those planning now? Start as early as possible. Make sure you don’t lose focus on what’s important, that this is a time to continue growing together and create a special celebration of your love. Put every ounce of yourself as individuals and as a couple into the entire event and let it be about the two of you.
Mike: Don’t forget that this is your day. Don’t stress about anyone else or get into the results of what their experience is going to be like at your wedding. If you don’t want someone there, don’t invite them, even if it creates conflict later. If you know someone or something might spoil the day, keep them away!
Mary: Remember that you can make this experience what you want it to be. Enjoy every minute of the engagement and planning and have fun with it. I was grateful to have Mike so involved that it felt like we were two kids playing….except everything we were imagining came true!!! And as my of my dearest friends said, there is no need to worry or be nervous because no matter what happens, you have the right guy!
Thanks so much Mary + Mike and we wish you a life of happiness together!

A lot of wedding ceremonies look identical, but that photograph of them kissing with the lights in the tree might be the most incredible, unique moment I’ve ever seen! Honestly. Beautiful wedding!
