How does whisking off for a wedding in the Catskills sound? Like the perfect way to kick off your Friday? PERFECT because that’s exactly where Robyn + Slim are taking us today! The pair had spent many weekends escaping to the magical mountains, so when it came to scouting location for their October nuptials, they knew exactly where to go. Foxfire Mountain House was the perfect spot for friends and family to stay and Modern Kicks stepped in to help plan the day, creating what Robyn called a mix of romance, Stevie Nicks, and a lot of velvet!
Here’s what Robyn had to tell us about finding the location of their dreams: We looked at several venues, but when we arrived at Foxfire Mountain House, I could barely contain my excitement. The gorgeous setting with tall trees and the inn itself, full of vintage finds, salvaged Moroccan tiles and rock n’ roll–it was perfect! Slim is a musician and I am a designer so this spot really spoke to us. There was a huge fireplace with comfortable couches and a record player in the main room and I envisioned our loved ones spending time there with a glass of wine, listening to Fleetwood Mac. At 170 guests we didn’t have a small wedding, but this venue made it feel very intimate.
Jean-Laurent Gaudy Photography travelled with R+S to capture the weekend’s sweet moments:
First looks get us every time!
Sooo sweet!!
This dazzling hair piece is perfect fall answer to a flower crown.
Best dressed! So cute!
Slim wore a suit from Men’s Wearhouse and found his blazer at JC Penney. How good is that burgundy velvet jacket?!
Michelle Bablo brought expertise to design + florals. Have you ever seen a more unique bouquet?
Processional: Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky & Fade in to You-Instrumental by Korey Dane
Recessional: You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates
First Dance: Lost in Love by Air Supply
The color of the trees, the deep fall blues and reds, and that VEIL. Just stunning!
Robyn: Slim's older brother performed our ceremony. We had no idea what he was going to say that afternoon and his words were so touching. There wasn't a dry eye in the house! It was an amazing moment, standing up in front of everyone and feeling so much love.
Slim: The days leading up to the wedding were cold and snowy–nearly blizzard conditions up in the Catskills. But the forecast remained consistent for our wedding day: 60 degrees and sunny! It was hard to believe at the time, but at some point during the early afternoon on our wedding day, as the snow was rapidly melting and it was clear we were going to have a beautiful day to enjoy, there was a great moment when it just sank in that everything was gonna be alright.
Robyn’s Rebecca Schoneveld beautiful gown has SO many show-stopping elements: the embroidery, bell sleeves, and deep-V back are just a few favs.
Love these two!
R+S knew how to make the most of their late October destination wedding by holding a welcome party the night before that doubled as a costume party! Slim’s favorite costume? When a couple that dressed up as Robyn and Slim from a photograph on the day they met.
Robyn: Choose your vendors carefully as you will be spending a lot of time with them. Look for people who's work you really admire and who you also gel with on a personal level. It makes your day so much more special when you are working with people who you admire and trust! We were lucky to have hit the nail on the head! From our planner, to the florist, photographer to cake baker, they made the year of planning really fun instead of stressful...and we walked away with several new friends!
Everyone says it, but really try to enjoy every moment of the day...it really does go so fast. Getting caught up in silly details will only take away from all of the beautiful memories!
Slim: Hear, hear! Roll with the punches, keep it fun, and everything's gonna be alright!
Congrats to R+S from all of us at GWS! Wishing you many more weekends away in the mountains!
