When we heard that Wendy has been an avid daily reader of GWS for years, we were crazy flattered to say the least. The ultimate fun for us is seeing a faithful reader create their dream celebration after finding all their inspiration right here. Totally the best + what it’s all about!
When it came to the look + feel of her big day, which was captured by the amazing Priscila Valentina, we were immediatley in love with everything Wendy + her main squeeze, Adrian, dreamt up. Seriously inspired by the color yellow (too fun!), she told us how she + Adrian are far from traditional as a couple, so traditions that didn’t speak to them had absolutely no place in their celebration. A message we think is worth sharing time + time again. Let’s hear more from the sweet bride below:
When it came to wedding planning, anything went. I had been pinning for years, reading GWS daily, spent hours of crafting, building, gluing, sewing, and designing this wedding. I vetted vendors from GWS. And GWS gave me the ideas and encouragement to not only decorate the way we wanted but to design this wedding from the ground up with what we envisioned as a “best day ever”.

Our Favorite Memory
A month before the wedding I got really ill, a couple hospital visits and a biopsy later, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I could not even have a bite of our own wedding cake. To add to the stress, when we choose our date we understood it “could” rain but this is southern California and We’re in a serious drought, the odds of it raining were slim. Ummm no, it forecasted rain all week, it poured the night before. I literally thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown.
My wedding planner, Emilee Hegg of Tasteful Tatters turned into my shrink that week. I will never be able to repay her. I scrambled, ordered umbrellas from Bella Umbrella, yellow wellies just in case, got the bridesmaids sweaters ,tired to get jackets for the guys at the last minute (hence why one doesn’t have one); Boots from Joyfolie for Gracie. Then the week got worse, my husband’s parents got sick and could not attend, and while Adrian was on the phone with his parents, my son cut off my daughter’s hair. I literally felt like I was holding my breath the entire time afraid it would down pour on our heads at any moment. It did rain that morning as we were setting up and even as I said I do, I was holding my breath. But as soon as we said I do, and not a drop was shed on anyone’s head, and they were all safe within the tent, I finally relaxed.
As I entered the tent, all the work was visible. It was majestic inside. The music played for our first dance and I swear in that moment everything was worth it. We had our first dance as husband and wife and then Van Morrison’s ‘into the mystic” played and we motioned for our babies to join us. I danced with our son and my husband with our daughter. It was sheer bliss. The entire world faded away and I knew this was what true happiness felt like.

Our Advice
Choose your vendors wisely. I still know without a doubt that I could not have pulled it all off without an amazing team of vendors that supported me when all indications were that this might not be the vision I had dreamt of. They went the extra mile to make it beautiful. Plan, Plan and Plan some more. Things can always go as expected but sometimes they don’t and if you have contingencies in place then you can fall back on those. Highland Springs Resort had a tent so even though it was not going to be side walled, when the weather kicked in we had that as a back up. We didn’t plan on having to get a Gluten Free cake or food but it all worked out because we prepared.
On that day, no matter what happens you will be husband and wife and that is truly all that matters. The people that show up are there to witness your love as a couple. They will not know that the umbrellas were last minute or that the escort card display was supposed to be outside. And don’t forget to have fun. It is your day, if you hire the best, then on that day you will be able to sit back, let them do what they do best and enjoy your wedding.
