Today’s stunning styled shoot pulls inspiration from the the Griffin & Sabine series of novels. For those who aren’t familiar with the stories (we weren’t!), Griffin is an artist who begins receiving postcards from an elusive Sabine, who lives far away – and it eventually turns into a super romantic long distance love story. The team behind the editorial, led by Sarah Maren Photography + Kate Whelan Events, used the surreal oil paintings from within the book to create the shoot’s color palette and stayed true to the storyline with elegant, astronomy-centric details mixed with touches of Dutch still life floral design. There’s so much pretty to pin throughout + we’re loving all the mystical design elements that will surely inspire couples who are looking for a few unique + magical ideas to incorporate into their day!
From the team, Shannon of Flourish created lush, romantic florals and combined them in true Dutch still life fashion with unexpected elements like brass bugs and pewter skulls. We added brass candle sticks, fresh fruits and tea lights with a rustic patina reminiscent of layers of oil paint. Two bouquets were created – one a fresh, loose romantic stunner wrapped in navy silk ribbon; the second a unique take on the new bracelet bouquet with pops of lace and thistle.
An astronomy-centric canvas guestbook sat on an easel where guests would connect their own constellation and sign nearby.
The team had the pleasure of speaking with Griffin & Sabine author Nick Bantock during the development of the session. He kindly gave them the rights to use unique art from the books for the table numbers, as well as signed custom stamp sets to play as guest favors. Such a fun touch that really helps authenticate the details of the shoot!
Loving the display of naked, berry-topped cakes + various other treats created by Sweet Cakes by Rebecca!

My eyes were fixated on those frames. But I love how the photography has captured this theme beautifully.
