After initially attempting to plan a big wedding to include all of their friends and family, Katherine + Brent quickly realized that a celebration like this could be not only expensive, but also stressful. So instead, they opted for a simple + intimate affair, limited to just immediate family, in the beautiful coastal town of Big Sur, California. Here’s more from Katherine about the day:
We chose Big Sur at random, having never visited but based on a family member’s recommendation. We could not have picked a more idyllic spot! We were married at dusk under the redwoods by my father, a deputy-for-the-day, who performed a short + sentimental non-religious ceremony. Our friends + missing family were with us in spirit; my best friend made a nest for my niece to carry our rings + our 11 guests held bouquets of daisies in remembrance of my deceased mother.

After the ceremony, our photographer whisked us away to the ethereal Pfeiffer Beach where we witnessed a perfect California sunset.
Our Advice
To those who cannot afford a full blown wedding but still want to share the experience with loved ones, throw a small affair in a romantic destination! Sure, our friends and extended family were disappointed BUT we eased the blow by throwing “reception” barbeques in each of our hometowns shortly after the wedding.
Don’t be deceived, small weddings still take a good deal of planning, but our wedding day was easy and relaxing – exactly how we wanted it!
