Autumn has been and will always be a time of transition — from light to dark; the long summer days turn to long winter nights, leaves change and fall from their lofty branches, the trees are left barren, waiting for renewal and the kiss of spring. This shift in seasons is a great romance — a rhythmic waltz between dark and light — that transforms all in its path and makes way for growth. Inspired by this, designer Jenni MacLeod of The Blushing Bird along with Revel Petals and Laurel and Fey, crafted a stunning styled shoot at Oak Canyon Ranch in Los Angeles, all photographed by Tyler Branch.
Marisa of Revel Petals shares A wedding is a transition into the newness of marriage and life as a union. What could be a more perfect inspiration for a moody autumn wedding? With harvest as a major marker of autumn, we wanted to create a contemporary interpretation of Grant Wood’s American Gothic. We imagined our couple as farmers, younger than Grant’s characters yet still embodying the stern, hard weathered perspective of the painting. This harshness is coupled with the vulnerability of love, creating a tense beauty that we weaved throughout the story.
We’re definitely intrigued by this concept. Let’s take a look!

The delicate button-up back on this dress!!
The Blushing Bird styled all the fashion elements, opting for an old world high lace collar and long sleeve gown by Tatyana Merenyuk for her, and a three-piece brown check wool suit by Heart and Dagger for him.
The bride’s look was completed with The Blushing Bird‘s own nature-inspired crystal crown by Melinda Rose Design.
The groom’s look took on a pop of color with a handmade Brackish bow tie and lapel pin, ethically sourced from rooster and pheasant feathers.

The Blushing Bird shares Incorporating an elegant take on Halloween, these foliage masks were crafted by Marisa of Revel Petals. The masks were made of leaves and sticks, prickly flowers, the spiny arms of succulents and dried money tree wisps. Instead of the traditional orange and black colors of Halloween, we focused on a palette of gold and black, accented with moody burgundy, dusty lavender, ethereal whites and muted shades of caramel. While the macabre elements of Halloween could have become too gruesome for a wedding, we used the masks and darker mood elements sparingly, to create a hauntingly romantic tone that easily paired with the gothic, Victorian and contemporary style.
Seriously, how stunning was that?! Thanks so much to The Blushing Bird for styling this gorgeous shoot + the rest of the creative team!
