Tips from a Stylist to Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

Tips for Finding Your Wedding Dress

Hey Green Wedding Shoes readers! I’m Chelsea from Hazel + Scout a stylist and blogger living in Huntsville, Alabama. My incredible fiancé and I were engaged in October of last year and I am so very excited that GWS has chosen to help us document the entire process with a brand new series. Over the course of our wedding planning process, I’ll be popping in to share all of the fun details – from finding the dress all the way to our wedding day! (See our entire series so far with Chelsea here + stay tuned for future posts about her wedding journey!)

Like most brides, I looked forward to the “finding the dress” stage of planning a wedding more than any other. Something about row upon row of beautiful lace gowns just makes my heart soar (not quite as high as the day I went from “girlfriend” to “fiance” but it was a close second) and the racks at Lovely Bride LA filled with Rue De Seine’s brand new Nomadic Love collection were no exception.

To find my dream dress, I traveled all the way to sunny Los Angeles with my bridesmaid and photographer (Sleepy Fox Photography) to meet with the designers of Rue De Seine. The ladies of Lovely Bride made us feel so welcome in their fun space and I was able to view the entire Nomadic Love Collection (so good!) before it’s launch in September. I’m so excited to share these exclusive looks at the beautiful new gowns with GWS!

4 Fashion Blogger Tips for Finding the Dress:

Tip #1: While it can be so fun to try on dress after beautiful dress, my biggest advice is not to stress or put too much pressure on the experience. Before my magical appointment at Lovely Bride, I tried a different boutique closer to home and left feeling a little down. The dresses at that shop didn’t feel quite like ‘me’ and I needed to check-in with myself and reprioritize before diving back in. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to discover the perfect option from the beginning. It takes time to find your dream dress!

Tip #2: Don’t feel like you need an audience. Reality shows always depict a huge party of loved ones helping the bride step into her gown but too many opinions can cloud your judgement. If you’re a little more introverted (like I am), know that it’s totally okay to go with one close friend.

Tip #3: When you find the designer of your dreams, you’ll know it! Before trying on Rue De Seine (I was dying to try the ‘Dahlia” style from their Young Love collection) wedding dresses just didn’t feel like me. Wearing full tulle skirts and yards of lace made me feel like a little girl playing dress up and that’s not how you want to feel on your big day. Assess the things that make you comfortable, know your style and be patient. There’s something out there for everyone!

Tip #4: Have fun! This process only comes around once and you should savor it. Pamper yourself and give yourself grace to relax. You will find the perfect dress!

I can’t begin to tell you how comfortable, beautiful and cherished Michele and her husband Michael (of Rue De Seine) made me feel during this special time! They walked me through the entire range of gorgeous gowns, explaining the boho inspiration behind each design, and I was completely blown away by the amazing details and incredible craftsmanship that go into each dress. We tried gown after gown, each one pettier than the last and Michele finally leaned close to say, “You look like sunshine.” I knew I’d found ‘the one’!

p.s. I’ve already picked my gown (and can’t wait to reveal our wedding photos in October!) but would LOVE your opinion. Which stunning Rue De Seine dress would you go with?!

It’s so fun to share Chelsea + Ainsworth’s journey, right?! We can’t wait to see which dress Chelsea ends up wearing!

P.S. We’re keeping track of the entire Fashion Blogger series right here!
